Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

What do you think of this trailer for Felicia Day's web series, Dragon Age Redemption?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF2mPgwrlT4&hd=1

I had never heard of her before I learned she was the voice actress for Veronica in New Vegas.

Then you have to check for two of the greatest, and one of those possibly THE greatest, web series' ever made.

I think it might turn out swell. Of course, that might just be sympathy among nerdy lasses, and me having the hots for her, but I digress.

I really love Orgins and Awakening.
So far I have only seen bleak landscape in DA2, are there any screens or videos that show different, and perhaps greener landscapes?

From the reviews I've read, it seems that most of the story takes place within the city of Kirkwall with a couple of exterior areas.

All of the exterior landscape pics and videos I've seen have that bleak style of art direction.

found http://kotaku.com/#!5763359/a-million-demo-downloads-unlocks-new-dragon-age-ii-gear. Considering the demo is coming out less than a month before the release, im going to assume that the demo is the finished product.

I like how our character talks now, but the combat looked too fast.

I don't think it's too fast so much as the animations just don't quite look right. They're on the jerky side, as though Bioware took some shortcuts and cut out some transitional animations.

I just watched the demo. What the hell happened? Where's the finished graphics? I thought those were from beta. Good god, everything got beaten by an ugly stick. The only exception are the barbie and ken like complexions of the characters which stand out in too much contrast to the poor ugly nuked environment around them. Like a child coloring her own set backgrounds and acting them out with toys in front. They just don't blend very well. It's very disconcerting.

Edit
Actually now that I think ab out it, their complexion is unusually smooth. Getting a good look at it, it's more than a little weird looking.

Edit
The animations look downright silly. Like they didn't have the heart to go full anime style. It's just this freakish abomination half way between something more traditional and over the top anime.

Edit
Oh good god, someone pointed out the staff sounds like a laser, he suspects it might be recycled Mass Effect sound effect and is going to look into it further. http://nooooooooooooooo.com/

Edit the 4th.
You know what I figured out? Why I don't like this game. It's like Bioware wanted to do something Final Fantasy or anime like, it really shows in many of the design decisions and overall style. Except for some reason, probably to appeal to a western market they tried to keep it somewhat traditional. So now... it's coming off as this awkward RPG that doesn't know what it wants to be. On the JRPG side, it's just not crazy or stylized enough. On the western side it's just a little too different, and lacking in what a typical western RPG would be like. I would have preferred if they had stuck to their guns and kept it either consistent with Origins, or if they bulldozed everything and did a western take on a JRPG.

Do you mean these videos?

The game looks great to me - the UI, the characters, the spells and perk trees, can't wait to play it. I like the dark, bleak visual style personally. In particular the story is interesting. The voice actor playing the dwarf seems excellent.

The textures seem to be higher res than DA1, but in some cutscenes the landscape textures really stand out as needing a replacement mod.

I don't like anime characters or JRPGs at all. The art direction in DA2 is more stylized than DAO, but not in the direction of JRPGs or anime IMO. It's much darker than the JRPG aesthetic and the characters are compelling and believable, not something I have come across in JRPGs.

Bah, thought I'd give Origins another playthrough before my return to Uni and the release of DA2.

Tis now 5 days later, and Origins, Awakening and all of the DLC again lay completed. I have no idea what happened over the past 5 days outside of Dragon Age, the whole week is a blur. I forgot how Origins tended to do that, simply consume enourmous ammounts of time quickly.

Anyway, I'm starting to feel a little bit more optimistic about DA2. At first I was worried that Bioware were simply making fantasy Mass Effect 2, and I still am to some extent. But the revealation of companions and such is getting me somewhat excited. The combat certainly is different from the first, but doesnt look too bad to me (except for the UI, what the heck happened there, it looks like they left that to be done by the intern or something).

So here's me praying for the next 20 days that Bioware hasnt stuffed things up.

Oh yea, totally took a run to the right side of the scale and tried to go anime. It petered out around the middle, now I have to brain bleach Gandalf with big spiky grey anime hair shooting lightening that sound like a laser and making the Balrog yell really loudly before being smitten atop the mountain. It's just bringing up too many associations from both totally different genres for me.

Edit
I would have preferred Bioware to demolish what they had if it meant them doing a JRPG. Just so I could see a western take on it with a big budget.

The demo has a set graphics detail on medium(apparently you can't change that for now), that's why it looks so [censored].

Also, I think I can get over the crappy anime fighting, but seriously... Aveline could get more attacking animations for her Shield defense mode.. right now, the endless stabbing looks hillarious.

EDIT: Oh? We have devs claiming that this is not the real demo, but the older build from the convention. :unsure2:

That's just it, it's not completely anime fighting either. It looks silly.

Also Hawke's mother: they made the same mistake as they did with Wynne. Another perfect body with grey hair just to make her look old...
And the combat is way too fast, it indeed looks silly. Still getting the game though.

Anyone else replaying the first game to import their save-games to 2? I lost all my old ones, so now I am. Also I now get to play Witch Hunt, which I haven't had before.

When sequalks try to please everyone, both the original fans an a new market, they tend to svck, see the fable games after tlc, mass effect 2 and GTA IV for examples.
Devs should just keep tothier fanbase, if its enough to make a profit no need to be greedy.

Yeah that video on Youtube isn't the demo that your getting on Tuesday. That video was from a convention that happened sometime last year. Still I love the combat it's better then what Origins had, I hated the postioning of the characters, that got annoying after a while.

I'm probably going to start out as either a Mage or a Rogue I haven't decided yet.

im going to start with a warrior and then a mage after i beat the campaign. I like playing warriors first so i can get a feel for the UI and just the overall gameplay since they probably overhauled it for the consoles. :sadvaultboy:

If they would release an actual store bought copy of a mac version, id rather buy that but they sold origins through that direct 2 drive and other [censored] so i doubt they will have a mac version till later.
