As long as it is patched with 213 then yeah. It's just difficult, if you're coming from the morrowind/oblivion side of the elder scrolls then its lack of hand-holding seems to make it rather difficult for some.

Morrowind had hand holding? Aside from the "you just killed an important character, reload your game [censored]!" message, I don't think it baby sat you too much.

Well it depends on the cheat, or what you consider cheating, I thought some of the cheats just helped to fix a glitchy system. If memory serves, I would use the magic repair one cause you still have to pay to have it repaired, and you still have to work up the ranks to gain access to the enchanter.

So I never really thought of it as cheating as it was enchancing the game.

Even if you cheat this game can throw you for a loop though. I remember that the game would occasionally drop an ancient vamp on me, even at low levels, I think it had to do with a certain corridor that always had an ancient vamp in it being added to the random dungeons. Like I said this game had quite a few glitches.

As far as I know it's not too late to install the latest patch.

Trust me, untill level 15 or so you won't kill an ancient vamp, he'll kill you. Best thing to do it save before you take a dungeon quest, or if your not on a quest, save before you enter a dungeon.

Also are you playing a default barbarian, well you can give that a shot, but I don't think you'll get very far, I suggest restarting, patch the game and build a custom class. If you have to play a default class either play a spellsword or a battlemage.

First time I finished the game was with a default barbarian redguard. Its the most resilient class, with the largest amount of HP each level.

To finish the main quest, having a magic item that casts spell reflection and another that casts levitate will help you WONDERS. Free action also helps a lot. If you can't get that, you can try joining a temple and buying potions with those effects, if that fails, theres the dark brotherhood.

Its possible to finish the game without that, without spell reflect since you have plenty of HP, and the last dungeon is tough but possible without levitate. But its tough.
