Imperial Guard trying to kill me - but I have no bounty

Hi everyone

I have an unusual problem - one I've never encountered before.
No matter where I go an Imperial Guard teleports after me and attacks me. I have no bounty, nothing stolen on me, and every other guard just speaks to me in the normal way. However, the moment this Imperial Guard starts attacking me, every other guard in the area also attacks me.

I've tried yielding to the Imperial Guard - but he does not accept my yields.
I've tried yielding to another guard that helps him, and paying a fine, which works temporarily, and I can even talk to the initial Imperial Guard, but after a short while he just starts attacking again.
I've tried killing him, and also getting him killed indirectly - but another Imperial guard shows up after a little while and starts attacking me again.

I'm in the Thieves Guild, and have dealt in stolen property before, but have never had anything like this happen, being permanently targetted by a teleporting guard!

I'm not sure what could be causing this - and i've found no other threads describing Imperial Guards out for vengence...

Any thoughts?

My God! A Guard problem that doesn't involve my Guard Overhaul? It's madness I say! Pure madness!

... but seriously, I got nothing. :P

My only solution would be to use the console to kill the Guard.

Reneer, all the times I've played with your mod, (and purposely tried breaking it via different ways non console or ini or any form just gameplay) I've had no problem. but that comment of yours is pure comedy gold.

Refscope should tell you what mod imperial is from has I got nothing either

perhaps get rid of MMM durzog addon since it has been merged, but, that will not fix the guard problem stalking you..

Just to offer an solution, if you disable the guard (open console, click on guard, type "disable", enter), he shouldn't cause any problems anymore... and you can probably live with one guard less in the game.
Another solution might be to open the console, click on the guard, and then type "ModDisposition player 100" and then try to yield to him. If that doesn't help, "SetActorValue Aggression 0" might do the trick. But I don't know if either of them can actually be used via the console.

By the way, this sort of thing happens to me when I refuse to pay the bounty, and afterwards set my crime gold to 0 via console. The guard is then still set to let me "pay with my blood", while the others will accept the new bounty... unless they see the guard attacking me, in which case they'll join the slaughter.

My first thought was the Imperial Guard who you send to jail. If it's not him, then I've got nothing either. That guy would follow me around map to map and I never bothered to kill him. He finally tackled a mountain lion and lost :)

If he's already in combat with you (i.e. coming to arrest or kill you), resetting your bounty won't help. You'll need to use StopCombatAlarmOnActor Player for that. I don't know if that can be used via console, but my http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23411 spell uses it and it works.

Bwahahah! I laughed out loud when I read your post.

Perversly, this is one of the things I like about Oblivion - its unpredictable nature!

I'm pretty sure it's not Audens Avidius as I haven't done that quest yet with this character, and although I have Reneer's NPC Names mod (characters are just called by their race name until I speak to them), when I finally did get a brief opportunity to speak before he attacked again, his name remained as "Imperial Guard". He also didn't have the note when I looted his body.

Just before this started happening, I did install 3 new mods - the latest Enhanced Grabbing - Put it in it's Place, Deathtrap Dungeon EV, and Pages of History. I'm sure it's not either of the 2 dungeon mods as I know how they start, and I tried disabling Enhanced Grabbing but I still encountered the issue, so it doesn't look like it's that - but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

I'll try the other suggestions, although as I've already got him killed several times before I suspect he'll keep coming back even if I disable him in the console!

I've selected the Imperial Guard and set ModDisposition Player 100, but no luck.
I've tried StopCombat.
I've tried Setpcinfamy 0.

Whatever I do, an Imperial Guard keeps teleporting to me and attacking me until either he is dead or I am. If he dies, another takes his place...

The Imperial Guard ref is ff00aa79. I'm rebuilding my bashed patch now after installing refscope, will have a look when it finishes rebuilding in 20 minutes time...

Edit: Well, well, well - I think I have it solved! Refscope pointed to Pages of History as the culprit! Unfortunately that means I'll have to disable PoH until I'm ready to do that mod. Refscope is a great plug-in. Many thanks for the suggestion, CorePC (and I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for your mods too!)

You may be able to extract the Base ID for the guy using the console and determine which mod produces him. The ref you have indicates he's created during play (e.g PlaceAtMe or a levelledCreature spawn) but if you can get the base you'll know what did it.

Could it be possible that you have completed the quest that involves putting a guard captain in jail? Maybe he is after you?
How was it called corrupted guards? No?

Yeah, I figured out the problem - the guard was from the Pages of History mod, which recreates the opening dungeon from TES I - ARENA. He's meant to be a random guard in the dungeon there, but for some reason he gets into Cyrodiil proper wherever I am...

You don't need to re-bash after installing RefScope, actually -- it has no interactions with other mods in your load order, and shouldn't be touched at all by a bashed patch (assuming you're using version 2.0; 1.x got patched but it was unintended and unimportant).

I'm glad you were able to figure out the source of your trouble with it, though. :)
