Product key?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 7:47 am

Hey i have a quick question folks. So will there be a game key of some kind, Because i am getting a new computer AFTER the game gets released and i would rather not wait or buy 2 games. 1 for my old PC and 1 for the new1.
Also, if theres a key and i add the game to my steam profile while doing so on my old PC, can i play it on my new PC aswell if the game is just registered on my steam profile?
One last thing. Where are the save files stored? Do i need to start from the beginning when i change the computer, or could it perhaps be solved by copying the save-files to my new comp, or will they simply be stored on my steam account?

I hope to get some good answers, this has been on my mind for long ;)

To my knowledge once you buy a game through steam it gets saved in your account Library. You can download it to any computer after that through your account.

The problem is: i did not buy it through steam, i bought it from PLAY.com

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Finally a benefit to playing console. I never have to worry about new games not working for my current console, and I never have to buy a new one if I don't want to. Not to be a console really devoted fan though. Your Steam account does save everything, as I've heard.

PRETTY sure you'll want to check with PLAY (or the devs via whatever support system is in place) for your options before installing to the old PC then.

There's almost certainly going to be some way to reset the install key/get a replacement key in that situation.

If only because a handful of countries (like mine) allow prosecution under consumer law when a product is made unusable by a problem like this.

The version from play.com is nothing special. You must activate this version via steam, too.
So don′t worry, buy the game install and activate this via Steam on your old pc. It will work on your new pc also, if you login with the same steam account of course!

All PC versions of Brink force you to use Steam.

There is an easy fix for this if you are building the PC you can basically just swap out Hard Drives. If you are running Win 7 you won't have any issues at all. If that is too complicated you can take your old PC to Staples or Best buy or what ever and they'll transfer your old files to your new pc for a nominal fee. Your best bet would be to install the drive from the old PC as a secondary HDD and use it for Storage space, you will be able to access the files from your old PC also.

You should be able to activate any copy - no matter where you bought it - through Steam, since you need Steam to play. Save games are stored in the Steam Cloud, too, so you shouldn't even need to worry about that. :)
