how to place items inside cupboards, storage etc

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:37 pm

Hello. I was wondering if it is possible to put items (weapons etc...) into storage items like gun lockers and safes and if it is possible how to do it. I am new to all this and so far I have managed to follow tutorials while making things although I can not find how to do this.

Well, the wrong way is to directly put things into containers using GECK records. The right way is to do it via a script. If you do it via a script (such as adding things to Moira's inventory), you'll never conflict with other mods. If you do it the manual way, any other mod that wants to touch that container will conflict.

It looks like the quest method is the way to go, a once and done quest adds the items to the container.

One suggestion is to look for a mod that adds items to an existing container... then go load it up in GECK (or FO3Edit) and see how they did it.

@Snabbik - That is not the correct unless you are adding items to an 'existing' container.

If you are placing a new container and want stuff in it, then you 'copy' the container and give it a new name. You now have your very own container you can put anything you want in it without conflicting with anyones mod.

True, very true, I generally don't add containers (yet) - and most of the mods I've seen are adding things to existing containers.

And the conflict with another mod can be worked around by creating a bashed patch.

Relying on third(fourth?)party tools when it isn't necessary is bad modding though.
