Pressing Multiplayer Concern

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:19 am

This is something thats been nagging me for a while now, i always assumed it would get answered
but multiple searches across multiple forrums yeilded nadda. My question is in regards to the map-by-map
transitions in Brink, and yes i've read the Brink bible in its entirety (twice) stay off my a$$ Wraith lol. The bible
states it's a "losers walk" style where the winning team continues to the next map in the story ark (pun?) and the
losers get put into another open game at the same point in the story. This concerns me because yes there will
be plenty of storylines to go around at launch, what about in three months, six, a year, what happens when the
servers are populated by maxed out characters and storys just wanting to play the maps for the fun team challenge.
Will we have to start a match from the chapter select and invite people while waiting for randoms, or after beating
one map will the game just auto-create the next one and throw us in.

Another nagging question is the auto balancing. If you join a friends game and it throws you on the other team for "balance"
and your team wins, will you get sepperated from your friend, or will it give you a prompt to stay behind.

Losers walk is if you play the campaign outright. There are options of free-play, jumping into a map roatation with a group instead of the competing campaigns, as well as a time trial mode where you compete as one side and then the other to see who can do the objective the fastest.

I have messaged people I'm not even tight with and they don't mind starting over a new set for me to join if there is no room for them. In Brink you don't play against the same team over and over. Which is a good thing. That gets stale. I think I read somewhere that on console that there is a party feature that allows you to end up on the same team. I'm not sure how it works but if you want a concrete answer on that you'll have to wait for SD developers to get back to you on that. I could ask for you.

As Mathonn said there is campaign and free play, campaign plays the missions in order and if you lose you get sent to another server where you play against people in the same level as you. Free Play is random missions so I assume you stay with the same people until you quit. Also if you and a friend want to play together there is a system called "fireteams" where you and up to seven other people become a fireteam and see each other differently in the game. Also if you're playing free play or lose a campaign and have to move to another game your fireteam will stay together.

Nope there are fireteams that will keep you with your friends. There are bots so no real autobalance.

Matches are based on rank

R1: lvl 0-4
R2: lvl 5-9
R3: lvl 10-14
R4: lvl 15-19
R5: lvl 20

If you want to start a new campaign you will play with other low levels not a lot of 20's.

I've kind of thought about similar things. I hope this game has a large user base of mature players for many years. However, lets say the games user base isn't very large in a year. If I choose to play campaign online against human players and the map I'm on can't find any human players then will I just be playing against Bots??

If what I've read in the Bible is correct, and I've understood it correctly, then yes

Even if there is a huge player base in the game, if somebody drops out during a game they get replaced by a bot. People looking for games can be sent into an already playing game and replace the bot again.

Yeah, you can just play "Free Play" if you want to go one mission at a time. And even if you're in a cutscene, you can start picking your weapons.

This game seems leaps beyond what other FPS and online games bring to the table.

You are correct shirtless man. I don't think I've ever been more excited about a game.

No it's not.

It's a Magnum (Played by Tom Selleck, but it's still the character, not the actor)
