[Help] Autosaved a Radiation Death

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:44 am

It was raining in the town of Megaton and so I went into Lucy West's house looking for someone to talk to while I waited out the storm. However no one was there and strangely I would get negative karma if I slept in the bed. Disheartened I then chose to exit her house and the radiation from the rain killed my character before or during the auto-save. So now every time I load my save my character is already in his death sequence. ResetHealth and Resurrect does not remedy the problem.

This is a video showing what happens:

Could one of you who reads this topic give me a solution where I do not have to start a new game?

Lol, why did you go into Lucy West's house with nothing on but a metal helmet?
Anyway, you should load the nearest save that isn't the one you died at and turn on god mode right before you leave. You'll get to where you're going without dying.

Depends if it saved just before kill got called, or just after. Lethal radiation poisoning is just caused by an Actor Effect called Radiation1000, edit it to remove the damage and you might survive. Otherwise it's already applied the damage and you'll have to try calling Resurrect in the console (normally need to do it twice). Using resurrect may bugger up your skills and stats, however.

TGM ?

Surprised this wasn't suggested earlier. Might have to be quick on the draw.

And if you don't have a save not too far behind... you have only yourself to blame. Reliance on autosave/quicksave is a surefire way for this to happen, and you're also cruisin' for savegame overwrite corruption.

Took me a while to realize the benefits of http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3729, but it's definitely the way to go. I still make manual saves before going from interior to exterior though - seems to give the most stable saves.

As for your current predicament, you'll have to revert to an earlier save. You do have an earlier save, don't you? Surely you haven't been relying on the dreaded Auto-Save...?

If I remember correctly, http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/ToggleGodMode doesn't get reset when you load a save, so you should be able to load any other save (or start a new game), activate god mode, then load your near-death save with god mode active.

To help with any future occurrences, I second Xepha's recommendation of using http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3729. This is exactly the kind of thing I wrote CASM to help with.
