I don't think they should reveal too much of the game.
Haven't you noticed, that when there is too much information on a game yet to be released, and when you play it it's just boring, because you already know almost everything about the game.
I hate it when some game company spoils my game with too much information. This happened while I played WoW, and I was expecting for WotLK to come out. It didn't turn out to be so exciting.
And it's hard to resist a link, which contains information on a game... maybe seeing a screenshot or two would'nt be that bad.
That's why I don't read game news that often. All I need to know about the games is: It's going to come out one day and I'm gonna buy it.
I agree with this statement quite whole-heartedly. In the months leading up to Bioshock's release I knew nothing about the game. Very early on I read one article that said it was going to be a cool game, shooter, with some moral ambiguity, and that was about it. I think I did know it was going to take place underwater. I did not know anything about the themes, that it was an art-deco city underwater, etc... I went into it very ignorant. When I played it, I was blown away. I thought it was a fantastic game, with an awesome storyline, socio-political themes, original, etc...obviously borrowed heavily from Ayn Rand, etc...If I had known every little detail about it before playing it never would have had the impact. Bioshock 2 was an ok shooter, but most of the Rapture magic was gone (the story line svcked in my opinion anyway which didn't help) and part of this is because I followed it all the way through development, read every article I could find, and followed "There's Something In the Sea," like it was my job. I'm staying away from reviews of games I might be even mildly interested in so I can be in awe the next time a great game comes out.
