Game world same size as Oblivion?

Well like i said before if gaming was a PC only market then tech would be pushed far faster than it is now. We would have games that fully utilize ultrahigh end PC's, games that total scale would out do anything currently out. Would be epic stuff. Instead were stuck with 6 year old technology thats completely stagnated were the only way to move forward is to optimized or to cut features/portions.

Sadly, I agree.

While consoles have been the catalyst for gaming as we know it (making it ridiculously mainstream), they are also completely holding gaming back. I just hope that someday they figure out how to make consoles upgradeable, so developers aren't stuck with old technology.

Has anybody already counted the game cells that are visible on the map which was shown in the videos?

If so, how does it compare to oblivion?

And after all, does it actually make sense to compare cyrodil and skyrim by the number of cells?

Actualy yes people have.. only a slight problem.. ob is realy odd in that it has a hell of alot more cells then it actualy uses in the game... If you turn off the borders and walk.. the gamespace is only a small portion of the map they actualy made.

Also we dont know if the units they use are the same or have the same number per cell or even if the squares on the map are cells or work groups. In fo3 they used 3 by 3 cells and in fonv they used 4 by 4 cells per grouping and it SEEMS this may in fact be using 3 by 3 again...

Also because of the statement you can get to anywhere you can see.... we have no clue if this time there is no or alot less border zone.

We dont know if the lakes in this game are small lakes or large ones... we dont know how big the forest zones are.... we assume the big mountin has to be big.. but if the map is to the same scale as the gameworld in ob that mountain is the size of the capital island.. thats not exactly all that large...

And the devs just arnt gona blab..

With Skyrim I was hoping there would be a lot of huge white snowy planes with basically nothing on them, just snow as far as the eye can stretch and the occasional tree or boulder, and mountains so high that they dwarf the Oblivion "mountains", but we can′t all have what we want, Bethesda needs to make sells and to do that they need to target a more mainstream audience, not easy to offer quality to the fan-base when there is a credit crunch and the fan-base is smaller than the mainstream audience, hard enough on the company as it is.

Yes, because the size of the world is scaled to a "mainstream audience"?

You make no(n-) sense.

How about keeping it more real like, you know, a budget, time constraints, technological limitations, and so forth... but no, you and others like you feel the need to lay the blame on some group of people, in this case the "mainstream audience", for your own narrow-mindedness. That's just group scapegoating.

Ok AGAIN... folks.. the last 2-3 times they were asked how big game x was and compared it to game y they ment the entire game NOT the map.

As in main quest side quests .. in simple terms if you played ob 150 hours you likely will play skyrim that long too as the content is about the same..

But the map may be bigger or smaller then ob.. most likely bigger as making a mountain as tall as the one they talk about wouldnt work very well in an ob sized map.. spoecialy as its only a tiny part of the skyrim map. They have to cram a giant mountain AND an even bigger canyon.. some grand forests and tundra and snow and blah blah blah AND 5 great cities and a bunch of towns... and some lakes and ruins and dragons and mamoths and and and..

Until they say skyrim is x square miles they arnt talking about a ,map.

spot on my friend

If consoles are upgradable, then it kinda' defeats the purpose of them being consoles.

Judging by the map of all provinces Skyrim is smaller than Cyrodil. Daggerfall has the biggest map but according to the map it is smaller than Oblivion so it is possible for Skyrim to be bigger or the same size as Oblivion.
