Weapon Equipping Idea

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:38 am

Okay! In games and by games I mean ever single RPG ever. The ranged weapon is always considered as a primary weapon. Therefore since the XBOX dpad hotkey system is complete trash I have to press B and swap all my swords and shields out for my bow and arrow. What if for once an RPG game considered the bow and arrow as the pistol in call of duty. With one tap of a button your second weapon is out without swapping in and out of menu or even taking the time to hold down Y and pick a weapon. You have instant action with a realistic sheath unsheath time and wallah you have a much more fluid fight.

But yes, I do really like the idea of being able to set a primary and secondary weapon you can switch with one button and I agree with Old Hermit that one should not have to use menus in combat.

Post deleted. We don't appreciate console bashing around here.

I′d actually like to stumble a bit around and take longer to swap weapons, swapping weapons in real life can take long if you are not used to your weapon or comfortable with it and with it on a good place on the body, especially if you have to unequip another weapon. Make us take 6 - 8 seconds to change weapons I say.

I can see this becoming a bit of a pain to be honest, especially while in combat. Sometimes I prefer that they don't make aspects of the game too realistic.

I am pretty sure I've seen plenty of RPGs that let you hotkey weapon combinations (main/off hand, main hand/shield) or two handed weapon or ranged...Even Gothic had that and it is a pretty old game. But I assume you probably only mean for consoles? In wich case I'm not sure how it works, although having to swap weapons by going to the menu screen sounds like a major pain for ranged characters.

They have already said that there will be hotkeys/shortcuts to different weapon/spell loadouts. Why must almost everyone on these boards constantly whine about one matter or the other?

I think by 'instant action' he meant not having to go into the UI---as in, 'no break from the action'.

Wait I don't get it. You don't like the instant choice in the dpad so you would rather have to hold down the Y button? This isn't an FPS, you don't have one thing as your "secondary weapon", everything is your secondary weapon through the dpad. Holding Y would be clunkier than the dpad, which I don't see why the dpad is an issue anyhow, I never have issues using it on the fly.

Also, almost every RPG has what you choose to use as the primary weapon. There is only two RPGs I know of that has ranged as their default primary weapon and that is mass effect and RDR. Ranged weapons are the primary weapon of FPS, but not RPGs, the point is that in RPGs, you can make a choice, that's even more so in TES.

Not faster to swap to a bow, but faster to swap to a single other weapon, such as a short sword. This would give us a better chance at defending ourselves in CC.

Basically just making Y into an additional hotkey? Doesn't seem like any point to that. The d-pad on the xbox has always annoyed me, though. I was never able to use anything that wasn't hotkeyed to one of the 4 cardinal directions practically. Short of fixing xbox controllers, I don't think that issue can be fixed.

I mean instead of pausing the game and switching weapons you swap in between them in fight. And by realistic sheath/unsheath time I mean the weapon doesn't just swap instantly to you hand but your player put his primary weapon away and then takes out his secondary in a reasonably set time period like 2-3 seconds. And maybe even a perk could help you swap between faster. It isn't instant swapping but it makes the combat flow better if your not pausing to menus to switch weapons.

Wouldn't you say so?

I play 360(for now...)

And I'm fine with the hotkeys.

Using that one button loses options for a much better button mechanic.
