Calm, Rally, Frenzy?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:52 am

Hi, all,
I havent been playing Oblivion long, but I have a few questions about the effects of Calm, Rally and Frenzy.
What do these spells do? How do they work?
Calm seems to have a level cap (ie Calm up to level 2), but Fenzy and Rally seem to affect some attribute or skill (ie Rally 20 pts for 20 sec.).
Can monsters cast Calm, Rally and Frenzy on me? How would I be affected?
Thanks for any insight.

Calm will stop an enemy from attacking if they are of that level or lower. Rally will stop an enemy from running away and is otherwise not useful at all. Frenzy will cause NPCs to start attacking whatever is nearby.

NPCs will not cast these on you, and if they somehow do, it won't do anything.

Here is a little more info on the magnitude (power) vs character level of the target as it relates to some of these illusion spells: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Magical_Effects#Magnitude_to_Level_Conversion

Frenzy is an awesome attack if you just someone out of the way. For example there was this annoying beggar so I cast a frenzy spell on her and suddenly there were about 5 guards joining in the fight!

I′ve never cared too much for these spells, too obscure and unappealing to me. However just for fun I made a spell that combined Calm with Charm AOE. I called it "Touch of Peace" or something :goodjob:

Rally does nothing useful for me. Calm is okay - it's not as effective as Control, but it's cheaper to cast. Frenzy can be devastating if you stay out of sight when you cast it. That's key though - otherwise you're just as likely to be attacked as anyone else is, and more so if you're actually seen casting it.

When I get high enough in Illusion skill to make useful full magnitude Frenzy spells, I like to add a Rally effect to the spells, since its purpose is to make things less likely to flee when hurt. Since I'm fond of Frenzying Conjurers and Necros in order to get them fighting each other, and they do tend to flee when hurt, it mitigates that somewhat... or at least, it seems that way to me. It doesn't cost very much spell power to add it in.

That's about the only use I've found for Rally, though.
