Need more things that can go boom

So as I'm mucking about with traps in Fallout 3's GECK, I've come to the realization that there is a distinct lack of traps that go "boom". We've got grenades (3 types), only one of which is used in a trap element. We have the 3 types of mines and the super-frag-mine Baby Carriage Trap.

Where are the:

- block of C4 with wires stuck in it?
- flammable barrels with volatiles inside that explode and spread flames?
- piles of old artillery shells or bombs, a hazard waiting to go boom?
- directional explosives that can be wall mounted?

All of those things could be used as payloads for traps. I'm hoping that we might see a bit more variety in FO:NV. Maybe it will give some modders ideas for creating resource objects.

The other half of my wishlist is more triggers. Like tripwires that are simply two metal stakes with a wire instead of the current rock w/ stake on one end and rock on the other end. Or a tripwire where one end is a metal stake and the other is an eyelet that looks like it's been screwed into the wall. Maybe 2 additional variants for each tripwire, one that is 75% of the length (scaling works... but not completely) and another that is 150% longer then standard.

A pressure plate that doesn't look like it's from the medieval period would be nice. Something rectangular and a bit thinner to the ground.

Your forgetting about the hidden mine that only goes off when you walk over it!

Making new explosions and new things that go boom is not terribly difficult in the GECK. I made a bunch of different Barrel types with Oil, Naptha, etc that all go boom. You can also use different expolsion effects, for example I used the nuka-cola explosion for one of my barrels. However directional explosions are not supported by the engine, an explosion is a 360 degree affair as far as I know. Aritillery shells could easily be used for bomb, C4 could easily be made using existing explosion types and objects.

Creating new triggers requires two steps; Making / re-using a model for the actual trigger and then the GECK part where you turn it into an Activator with the appropriate tripwire script attached. This part depends on your modelling and GECK skills.

It's all very doable even by us modders. :)

Like Miaximus said you can make plenty of your own custom explosive traps with a little creativity.

And FYI, its just Fallout: New Vegas, not Fallout 3: New Vegas. The two games are unrelated. (Except obviously both being Fallout games.)

Yeah, I think it's something that I might try in New Vegas. Models and artwork have never been my strong suit. So most likely, I would simply take the existing tripwire and make it longer/shorter or see about replacing the ends.

I did have the idea of using the Nuka Grenade explosion for the fire barrel.

One idea for "directional" traps would be a longer 3D model where the visible portion of the model is at one end, with the explosion point of origin being a meter or three away along one axis. More likely, just putting the explosion about 1 meter in front of the 3D object might work well enough. It would at least give you an object that is wall-mountable or that looks like it would make sense. Whether it looks like a claymore, or just some sort of netting that holds a frag mine probably won't matter.

Another idea would be some sort of spring-loaded mechanism to throw grenades in the general direction of the player when triggered. Although the pitching machine throwing grenades instead of baseballs could be interesting.

(I've been avoiding as much detailed information about NV as possible... that's carried over to getting the name wrong apparently.)
