Per Tesnexus :

Blender 2.49b Python 2.6.5 Blender NIF Scripts 2.5.5 NifSkope 1.0.22 PyFFI 1.1.5 is the load I want.
I downloaded their "bundle" (with the above programs and revisions listed above) and installed per the following instructions.

But once I get to loading Blender NIF Scripts 2.5.5 I get an error saying I need to load Python 2.6.5 Blender and PyFFI.

BUT I DID LOAD IT!!!! :banghead:

Here are the instructions I am following :


Installation


Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)


Install Python
Source: Python.Org

1. Run Python Setup - Select "Install for all use" and click Next
3. Select Destination - Click Next to accept default of C:\Python25\
4. Customize Python - Click Next to accept defaults
5. Setup Complete - Click Finish

Install Blender
Source: Blender.Org

1. Run Blender
2. Welcome - Click Next
3. License Agreement - Click I Agree
4. Choose Components - Click Next to accept defaults
5. Choose Location - Change from C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender to C:\Apps\Blender and click Next
6. Specify User Data - Select "Use Installation Directory" and click Next
7. Required System DLL Check - Click OK
8. Setup Complete - Click Finish
9. Make sure Blend starts up correctly and then close Blender. If Blender fails to start, install MS Visual C++ 2005 runtime (included on this page)

Install PyFFI

1. Run PyFFI
2. Welcome - Click Next
3. License Agreement - Click I Agree
4. Choose Install Location - Change from C:\Program Files\PyFFI to C:\Apps\PyFFI and click Install
5. Installer will now check for required system files - Click OK
6. Setup Complete - Click Next
7. Setup Complete - Click Finish

Install NIF Scripts

1. Run blender_nif_scripts-2.5.5-windows.exe <-------------------------------------------------- this is were it all falls apart! :brokencomputer:
2. Welcome - Click Next
3. License Agreement - Click I Agree
4. Choose Install Location - Click Next to accept default of C:\Apps\Blender\.blender\scripts
5. Choose Documentation Location - Change from C:\Program Files\NifTools\Blender NIF Scripts to C:\Apps\NifTools\Blender NIF Scripts
6. Installation Complete - Click Next
7. Setup Complete - Click Finish
8. Review the Readme and then close the file.

Install NifSkope

1. Run nifskope windows.exe
2. Welcome - Click Next
3. License Agreement - Click I Agree
4. Choose Install Location - Change C:\Program Files\NifTools\NifSkope to C:\Apps\NifTools\NifSkope and click Install
5. Installer will check for required DLLs - Click OK
6. Installation Complete - Click Next
7. Setup Wizard - Click Finish

If I do the following it seems to work:


1. Run PyFFI
2. Welcome - Click Next
3. License Agreement - Click I Agree
4. for the install Location - DO NOT Change from C:\Program Files\PyFFI to C:\Apps\PyFFI and click Install
5. Installer will now check for required system files - Click OK
6. Setup Complete - Click Next
7. Setup Complete - Click Finish


I,E use the default "C:\Program Files\PyFF"

SO should I do this for ALL the other installs as well? Should I use the default locations for Blender 2.49b Python 2.6.5 Blender NIF Scripts 2.5.5 NifSkope 1.0.22 PyFFI 1.1.5
thus not following the above directions that said I should change them?

I am installing to a windows 7 os.

You might be running into UAC issues with Windows 7. It took me quite a bit of fiddling to get this to work as well. Now I'm scared to even update Wrye Bash

When running the installers, make sure you right-click on them and select "Run as administrator". If you don't, then odd little things won't work. In particular, context menus (the ones you get when you right-click on something) won't get updated.

Here's where I installed all the bits and pieces:
PyFFI in C:\PyFFI
Python in C:\Python26
Blender in C:\Blender
Blender NIF scripts in C:\Blender NIF Scripts
Nifskope in C:\NifTools

NOW, for the Blender NIF scripts - don't use the exe version! It's hard coded for the install path and I think even the version. I found a version in a zip file that just needed upzipping and there was an install.bat file.

So I think you will be fine if you install the Blender NIF scripts using the zip version install of the exe.

Did I read in the opening post that Python 2.6 was installing into a Python25 folder? That bit suggests the wrong level of Python installer. I remember there was a time when Blender needed 2.6 but the import scripts needed 2.5 and there were some gyrations to go through to reconcile that, but it should all be happily 2.6 now.
