I'm not convinced that's an ant, either. Not that I'm opposed to the idea (I've loved giant ants since I watched http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047573/).

It's a spider head.

look at the larva above the ant/spider (the one in color is the ant that i'm talking about, not the spider that's in black and white next to it)

I just noticed an interesting bit of tid: in the http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/misc/artofskyrim_003_orc.jpg, the two red labels read "EMPIRE" and "REBELS" respectively. Perhaps these regions/cities are political enemies in the civil war? Looks like Windhelm could be a supporter of the Skyrim secessionists, whilst Solitude is still loyal to the Empire.

Maybe in Skyrim, instead of regular twohanded axes they have them with a very long handle.

at 2:16 we see concept art of an argonian. He is to the far left and has a sword on his back a dagger at his side and a staff in his hand. This may be how armor is hung in the new game or it may represent the certain loadouts he has hotkey'd. Of course it's more than likely just aesthetic for the concept art.

Good post , I realy hope that they reintroduce inverted kinetic legs for the Argonians and the Kajits as they where in Morrowind , it made them feel more alien somehow ....

Maybe the female High Elf is wearing Falmeric armor?

And could that be a were-lion?

If you look very closely you can see that is not an ant, the spiders front legs are just raised, it also doesn't have enough segments for an ant, what your saying is larvae is just a concept of the spiders body without any legs to it. I've zoomed in very closely, and not to say ants are totally out but that isn't one.

The map appears to be very rocky and filled with mountains. Although that is the geography of Skyrim, I hope that mountains don't take up the majority of the terrain. I despise climbing up those treacherous things.

The armor looks very good indeed although it's only concept art.

And the ants. Sounds like a page out of Fallout's book. Hmm let me guess fire breathing ants too? That's if ants are even confirmed considering it's just artwork on the wall.

also, people keep saying those long axes are NOT halberds... have you people even SEEN a freaking halberd?!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Halberdier-corps.jpg

oh my GOD! they're AXES ON POLES!
geez, people... try learning something about weaponry before acting like you know ANYTHING!
sorry for sounding harsh, but god... if people took one minute out of their day to RESEARCH halberds, they'd see they mostly ARE "long axes"...
for more variation, look at these... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hallebardes-p1000544.jpg
those are different sorts of halberds and halberd-like polearms.
im sure if you took the time, you could find many more variations of halberds... or do i have to teach you nay-sayers everything?

Hoo boy. It's ironic, really. I have done my research, a lot over the past couple days trying to teach people like yourselves the difference. Halberds are not so much axes on poles but spears with tiny axe heads. Show me one picture from the game we've seen so far that has a spear head coming off the tip of the pole. Just one.

But there is none. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_38X_HlDW_R0/TM2RUtpAfyI/AAAAAAAAAmg/RbfEpcVKepw/DaneAxe.jpg is a long handled axe. Useless for stabbing, great for chopping. Much like all the axes we've seen so far.

As you'll see in in the second link you posted, there is a trend of the axe heads getting smaller and smaller while the spear heads get longer. That's because the larger your axe head, the harder it is to hold the weapon parallel with the ground, as you would in a stabbing motion. That's not a problem with axes, because you are chopping down from a position that starts perpendicular to the ground.

The closest thing we've seen to a halberd is whats commonly called a bardiche, where the axe head is long and thin, and the top of the blade comes to a point, which regardless is separate from the top of the shaft. That was the greyed out concept art though, and there's no telling if it made it into the game.

This one calls http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bardiche on some of the concepts. One of those concepts if definitely a long-handled axe though.

If we're going to say what is or isn't in the game based on concept art, then halberds would most likely be in the game anyways. First off, both of those had rather short, thing blades. Quite a bit different than axes, and definitely pole arm material. Spears are also in (if, once again, we base it entirely on concept art), as we can see in the Argonian concept art.

So, even if those weren't halberds, we would still most likely see halberds, considering spears were in.
