NBA all star Dunk competion a joke?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:17 am

Ok, it's 1:40 am and I am bored. I am watching a repeat of the NBA allstar competion. I missed the 3point shooting and watching the Dunk competion. This use to be the most thing I would love to see. Now it's meh. It's a complete joke this year. It's all gimmicks. So this is telling me, they can't really do anything. Last few years, the players just don't look so excited doing this. It's like they are annoyed they have to be there, not all of them, but some of them.

Now add in all these "gimicks" it takes away the from the competion. A forklift being brought in so someone can dunk 2 balls at the same time? Another one, brining in girls with flag banners as an introduction? Someone else bringing in a NBA woman, to kiss the judges?

I am not impressed here. I am supposed to be Wowed? It's almost like watching TV where everything is fake. I find this year, it's a joke, a spectacle. Yes I know it's suppose to be a spectacle, but this is not in a good way. It's almost like a carniville. The judges looked boared out of thier tree. What is next, someone going to set themselves on fire to do a dunk to wow the people?

Just curious as to whay you guys and gals think.

Good or bad?

*edit*

YAWN. They bring a choir out to sing "I think I can fly" spend 5 minutes and then they bring a car. So they said he jumped over a car. Not really. He jumped over the hood but he didn't jump over the roof of the car. Again, gimmicky. Looking at the people in the back ground nobody is really excited. It was Oh WOW for 10 seconds, and it's back to blah faces.

Man I miss the Micheal Jordan days. People were screaming and yelling for 20 mintues after the dunk, not 2o seconds. Now I see why they got rid of it. Maybe it's time to do so again.

This years was the best competition they've had in years, I don't what your talking about. It's been that the players would come up with cheap tricks or just stuff that wasn't really creative, but this year showcased innovation and some of the best athletes in the world. Did you see that free throw line dunk? A 7 footer pulled off what even Dr. J couldn't fully do. That's how great it was.

Well yeah I saw that. Thing is I saw that over 15 years ago when Micheal Jordan did that. Thing is, the Toronto Raptor guy, and the 7ft guy were amazing. I am talking about gimmicks bringing in a Choir to sing, or an NBA women to kiss the judges on the cheek, or brining in a forklift for 2 baskets.

Also if it was so amazing, how come the commentators were not so impressed? How come the audience wasn't so impressed? When Micheal Jordan and even 10 years ago when Vince Carter did his dunks the arena and people were so excited 1/2 hour after it happened. Even the next day people were talking about it.

Yesterday was a joke. If this was the best competion in years, I would hate to see how the last few years were. This was nothing but a side circus show. People were not excited for long. You call cheering for 20 seconds excitement and then the place dies down? Look at the athletes sitting in the sidelines. They were not impressed.

I can't remember the names, but a few years ago, when the guy donned the Superman Cape, that was cool because he delivered on the first dunk. Almost everyone was missing and took over 5 attempts to do what they wanted.

I wouldn't call these the best athletes in the world at all. Again, it was allmost all gimmicks. Besides the 7 footer dunk, I can't even remember what the others did. There was no power to it except for the one mentioned. There was no emotion as when Micheal Jordan or Vince Carder did thier dunks.

Also you are the only one who posted here. It seems nobody even cares anymore. I rememeber when I was young we all had to watch the Allstar even espically the Dunk Competion. People would talk about it for weeks after the event. People can't even talk about what happened yesterday.

So what is next? Setting up one on fire, jumping through a hoop and then dunk the ball? Do we really need a choir, girls kissing judges, a boy loosing his teddy bear, jumping over the lowest part of a short car? It was cute the first time someone blowing a candle on a cup cake when dunking, but now it's just getting rediculous.

I thought the whole NBA was a joke? Seriously, they need to go back to the 70s, were they would just start randomly fighting and knocking each other out. On topic though, Andre Iguodala has had some of the better dunks in recent memory.

The NBA is a joke, we all know what the B really stands for.

I really liked Demar Derozen's second dunk, McGee had a really nice one in the final round too. The car dunk was way overhyped though, much like Dwight Howard's 2008 performance. Garbage dunks, but they were so hyped up that everyone freaked out over it. Griffin's best dunk was the Vinsanity elbow dunk, imo.

Everyone keeps raving about Ibaka's dunk. It's impressive and all, but I think we're all tired of seeing the free throw line dunk (even though his was the farthest, MJ still got more air). Doesn't make you jump out of your seat like some of the dunks from the early 2000s. Iggy in 06 was the last great performance, and even he got robbed.
