Best Level Scaling Solution

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:21 am

Going to replay oblivion and although I never used mods before, I intend on downloading one of the many level scaling mods. Any suggestions on which would be best. I don't want anything new added to the game I only want the level scaling issues adressed. thanks in advance.

Roll a mage and never cast a single spell. Problem solved.

I already know that method but thanks anyway. Which one of the many mods would you recommend however?

Hi Fargoth,
I use the full Fcom setup witch is great tho takes a lot of setting up if you cant be bothered with all that then I believe OOO would be good as it rescales all the creatures and makes a more challenging experiance. Your best option is probably to go to tesnexus and look at the most endorsed files in the gameplay overhaul and changes section. If you use OOO I recomend using MMM also as it adds a large variaty of new creatures and NPCs hope this helps. :foodndrink:

Hi Fargoth,

I left a note in your treestump, did you find it? If not, I'll replicate the message here for you:

I find TIE the best, as it is lore friendly and doesn't use any outside assets. OOO, FCOM and the like add all sorts of extra creatures that I didn't feel belonged in Oblivion (my 2 cents). It removes lore scaling and gives the world an organic feel.

Best wishes.

If you want a very lightweight setup, the following 2 will give you a "very close to vanilla" experience. Very small downloads.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3964

G's Loot Mod LITE - rebalances loot lists

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4905

NPC Static Level - rebalances enemies, solves "bandits in glass armor" problem

Use the 2 together, merge with Wrye Bash and stuff (or don't, if you're not using any other mods then I think you can skip Wrye Bash altogether).

No new resources, no lore unfriendly garbage!

TIE is a good one, but it will make the game much harder, and from my experiences with TIE, it seems to favor Stealth most.
OOO is a great alternative, and with MMM, It makes a great, challenging(But less so than TIE) world to play in.

Fargoth clealry said he didn't want any new content, he just wanted the level scaling issue to be fixed. OOO, MMM, and full FCOM all add a bunch of new content.

I was exactly like you a few weeks ago. I had owned Oblivion for so many years but never finished the main quest because I got too carried away with modding. I finally said "screw modding, I'm going to finish the MQ on vanilla" but then I realized that 100% vanilla is kinda broken in so many ways, so I started looking for lightweight scaling solutions.

I finished my first main quest runthrough ever with the above 2 mods I mentioned. I'm sure you'll enjoy them as well.

OOO. fixes a lot of the leveling complaints, provides chalenges (but good rewards if you survive), plus lots of other cool stuff.
It's also modular, in sence that you don't have to add everything it comes with.

Hear hear!

OOO 1.01 (the only version I can stomach) adds very little extra content, and kept me happy for years. Early versions of Adventurers does much the same. I like both, but NPC Static Level is lighter and better yet, and more stable to boot (no more CTDs!).

I use Realistic Leveling and Progress (to slow down the leveling).

Works for me

snip

I would just like to take a moment to thank you for letting me and everyone else know about these mods, especialy NPC static level. No more will I create rediculous, counter intuitive class builds in order to insigate a self imposed level cap or some other crazy thing. Thank you. you've just helped to greatly improve my video gaming experience. I can actually use alchemy as a major skill now!!! \,,/,(- _ -),\,,/
