Is Brink for the PC a Port?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:51 am

Hello guys, I am wondering if anyone has any news about whether or not this game, for the PC, is simply ported from console, or if the PC game was totally a separate project, just as BC2 was? Anyone have any news sources whatsoever? If so, please post, thanks.

Pretty sure it's separate and that none are ports, though I seem to remember in an interview on hiphopgamershow.com it was stated that the PS3 was a "lead" platform.

I'll wait for somebody more informed to confirm.

No, each platform is being developed on it's own, Splash Damage mainly develops PC anyway so you should have no problems.
And PS3 wasn't the "lead" platform if I remember correctly the only reason it had a closed beta test was because they had to work specific problems out.

PS3 is the hardest platform to program for, and this is SD's first time working on anything but PC. So, they had some issues with the PS3 version that they needed a closed beta to solve. I heard it was mostly network issues.

Given SD's background, i would call PC the lead platform, if you insist that one has to be, but SD has assured us of no porting.

Think of it as this:

You make plans for a house, gather the materials to build this house and then multiply these by 3 to ship them to 3 different places to build the same house at those 3 different places.
That is how BRINK was developed like; hopefully.

Dunno why but that "hopefully" made me giggle :)

SD making any console their ''lead'' platform would be a mortal sin, and to speak of it is heresy.

BC2 was a port buddy. A poor one at that too, the bugs and issues with it are still present over a year later.

Luckily, BRINK is using a proven engine, from ID no less. I'm sure this game's design and feel was balanced to be ideal between the console-PC platforms. Both have audiences that require different elements. I am quite sure the PC version will come out great though, the game's been apparently "done" for over half a year now. They've just been polishing and tweaking it this entire time.
I pre-ordered the game in September, I'm hoping they roll out a 'beta' to us early adopters.

People said that about Crytek before Crysis 2 just as well. <_<
