Games that you love

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:05 pm

Thought this would be an interesting topic. Were all gamers here, is there a specific game, or series of games that you hold close to your heart, but you can't really explain why you love the game/games so much? For me, this would have to be last year's Deadly Premonition. Dream Cast in hi-def quality graphics, dated gameplay, unpolished driving sequences, and overall one of the greatest gaming experiences I have had in a long time. The only real saving grace of this game was the writing. It had one of the strangest stories I have ever experienced anywhere, and it really gave the game it's own personality. Normally, even great writing couldn't save a game that was otherwise weak, in this title the atmosphere and writing almost nullified everything that was wrong with the game. Deadly Premonition, clunky, ugly, and one of a kind.

I liked Dungeon siege 2 and the expansion pack, I just loved the epic scope of the games, and the ridiculously long story

And Betrayal at Krondor, big Feist fan

That Farm Frenzy game or whatever it is from Oberon. It's ridiculously addictive, I was so sad when my free trial expired. I'm tempted to buy it.

During my childhood I really liked Prince of Persia 3 for some reason. Now I think it's absolutely awful and I have no idea why I liked it in the first place.

This game. It's absolutely terrible, the story is a load of nonsensical trash about tanks that can talk for no apparent reason. Despite being set in a fantasy universe all available tanks are from the real world, it's easy to win and very very easy to find a weapon that will totally break the game.

However, the gameplay is easy because there are soooo many strong combinations and so much customisation this became my defacto split screen game with friends just because of all the sheer variety of tactics you could make work - enemy picks the biggest tank with the strongest gun? Build something small and stupidly fast because he can't afford good rotation speed on his turret there were so many options that worked.

Danmaku shooters in general. I'm so terrible at them, but I keep buying and dying, slowly getting better. I think it may be that feeling you get when you've essentially dodged rain, but that's a one in a million shot for me and yet I keep coming back for more.

Even worse is it's an expensive hobby. $70-80 a pop for games that, if you only played through once, would last an hour at best. Of course, with these types of games you play through countless times, but it's still pricey. Even more so when you realize you need a Japanese Xbox 360 to get the vast majority of releases this generation. Well worth it though, now that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRrVTR0GbgM&hd=1 is on its way to Xbox 360. ^_^

This. I only have one DW game, but I've played most of them. I haven't played it in a good while, but to be honest, if I saw one for cheap, I could spend hours on it again.

Despite not particularly enjoying FPS in general, and despite the fact that it trudges fairly heavily upon the established Trek universe, I actually quite enjoyed the game. I still can't really figure out why.

I know this is blasphemy, but Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. I can play the single player over and over. I love it. It's terrible but I love it.

Dragon Age: Origins - I hate isometric, tactical-based RPGs! Especially when they drag you through 60 hours of quests, most of which seems to be running back and forth through dungeons and killing samey monsters. Still, against all odds, it kept me entertained.

Final Fantasy XIII -- it's plagued with linearity, poor voice acting, poor writing, and shallow combat

HOWEVER -- it has a great soundtrack, beautiful visuals, and as shallow as the combat is, I enjoy it quite a bit.

Now I remember about Dynasty Warriors Online. The English version is out now.

A game I really loved in the day was Diablo. First I played a demo on the mac, and then I had it for Playstation. Now I have it for PC. I was into all the atmosphere.

Far Cry 2. How the hell did I put up with this piece of work? The reason I liked this thing eludes me.
