Skyrim pen and paper

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:31 am

So with my anticipation of Skyrim soaring I've been looking for some ways to channel my excitement. I've already started playing back through Morrowind, and eventually Oblivion will get picked up (both with the appropriate Nord character). But I've really wanted to take in some Skyrim atmosphere (arctic/alpine/fjord style environments are my all time favorites), which has lead me to another avenue.

I have a group of friends with which I play D&D. I am currently planning a short campaign set in skyrim with some Tamrielic lore rather than the forgotten realms lore that we typically use. I've even started creating a Human sub-race with cold weather resistance and such. I just want to dive into my RP in a setting which I expect will be both beautiful and brutal.

Anyone else doing something similar?

Anyone have any ideas to toss in for my use?

EDIT: After seeing my topic from the main page, I realized it looks a bit like I was announcing a p&p Skyrim game. Sorry if that was misunderstood, but seriously how awesome would a licensed Elder Scrolls pen and paper RPG be!

That sounds like a pretty good idea, haven't really got many suggestions for you, but it should keep you going until the amazing day it graces our screens.

I have never in my life played a p&p RPG - only really learnt of their existence on these forums, so I've got no suggestions either. I'd never hear the end of it if I suggested doing something like this to my friends, I reckon :P

I'd rather have a general Elder Scrolls tabletop, not just Skyrim, but the whole world. D&D's Forgotten Realms setting has a whole world, from the frozen Icewind Dale to the tropical forests of Tethyr and the wizard-ruled Thay. Why not all of Tamriel? That would be epic.

I would love a DnD type TES game. Perhaps they could have TES versions of classic games. I own a copy of Lord of the Rings Monopoly, so I could imagine something similar could be done with either TES or just Skyrim.

Have at it. I'd probably use the hero system instead of D&D, though I could probably do a mutants and mastermind style game which kind of is 3e D&D based.

For hero, the physical types I'd keep fairly basic, skills, attributes, gear. Throw in someway to buy powers for combat tricks, probably based in a multipower.

Magic, multipower seems a natural fit for the basis. A endurance reserve for magika have it only recharge while sleeping and by potions. Standard limitations on all magic multipowers gestures, requires a skill roll.

You know that would be sweet if they got hero games to spin up a supplement for the elder scrolls world to coincide with its release.

I'm currently developing a pen & paper ruleset for TES, although with a focus on Morrowind (spell- and equipment-wise, for example). It's of course not a DnD clone, it's kind of a tossup of several different systems, although I gave it a slightly more realistic note than DnD and the TES games, because of personal preference. A few playtests have already been made and it worked out quite well, but it's a long way from being finished and the progress is very slow currently due to real life getting in the way.

I have never played a Nord but purely for Role Play I am going to make my first character in Skyrim a Nord. Besides it would fit the Lore!!

thanks guys for your replies! good stuff.

Cosmar: I definitely meant a whole TES pen & paper game rather than just skyrim, and I definitely think it would be epic.

Gabbo: I can picture TES Monopoly now....Vivec and The Imperial City as Boardwalk and Park Place!

Spec: That sounds awesome! I'd love to test it out if you're willing to share when it is completed.
