Bitter Coast in Morrowind

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:40 pm

As I was wandering through beautiful atmosphere around my shack in Gnaar Mok, I was wondering which places on earth geographicaly could be more or less similar to Bitter Coast region, with its friendly swamps, mellow warm and humid climate, sea, and all the nature itself. It actually makes me want to dive in to the sea and eat some funghi and rest under bright blue sky. It makes me somehow think on places like Bangladesh, Southern Japan or Indonesia perhaps, something in between, though I have never been there. How do you think? I would appreciate any opinions or even advice, because I have always had a good feelings about eremetic lifestyle in nature, somewhat similar to Bitter Coast or Ascadian Isles. :spotted owl:

I'm more prone to eat the fungi in the Ascadian Isles.

and do not forget the side effects ;)

But I suspect the nearest would be on certain islands - otherwise beware the crocs and alligators

Well, usually it doesn't just go from straight wetland and swamps to ocean. Geographically things usually go rocks or sand then ocean, because of the current beating at the beach. Anything else then rocks or sand then the area is really new or the environment just changed because water does it's damage pretty quick. So I think the closest area would be like, Coastal South America. Because it's really dense but wet enough to pull of the Bitter Coast look.

Why you want to make a movie? Remember that the Bittercoast isn't directly open to the oceans, just to the seas surrounding Vvardenfell, and those are connected to the rest of Tamriel's oceans. Taking into account Vvardenfell is a volcanic island and Bittercoast would owe it's creation to that, Vvardenfell is just simply a high fantasy land, it doesn't really have real world comparisons really. IMO, the closest you can come would be volcanic landscapes, perhaps nearby lakes or seas at the point where growth can take place over volcanically formed terrain. Look at Ol Doinyo Lengai as an example for volcanic terrain, I think there are even some lakes near enough to it to have "volcanic" terrain, but imagine it open to a sea like Vvardenfell has. That's just a place to begin your search.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the question! LOL. Yeah, in the USA... Florida. Possibly Louisiana and some parts of Mississippi. Basically any sizeable temperate or tropical swampland. I live in southeast oklahoma, in the red river valley, and believe it or not, my back yard looks like the bitter coast. (not all of Oklahoma's plains) ;) Damn. I feel like Shrek. It's MY swamp. :P Marsh-owners unite!!!!!

I feel really dumb now that's right, i was thinking from an in the game look but now I remember the map of Nirn and how it's actually rather closed off from the actual ocean. So it's very possible to be how it is.

The Everglades, as much as I have seen it on the internet, doesnt look very friendly with its alligators.
Ol Big Volcano with its volcanic terrain looks really scary and unpleasant to live by.
Though Yakushima island doesnt have any swamps, it kinda looks like Bitter Coast:

Also it doesnt have any gators or other beings that could eat you alive.
