Dunmer language question

Just a quick question: Does anyone know what 'Hai Resdaynia' means, as in "Lord Nerevar Indoril, Hai Resdaynia!" etc? Obviously I know that 'Resdayn' is the old name for Morrowind, but I can't find a translation for the phrase itself.

Don't know, but since it's only used in that exact phrase I figure it it's either another part of his title or a typo for hail Resdaynia.

I vaguely recall it being part of his title--denoting him as one of Morrowind's leaders and whatnot. It certainly sounds like it should be some sort of exclamation, though.

It is used twice in-game, both times spelled "hai" rather than "hail" and both times used after Nerevar's name, like a title. Seems like part of his title more than an exclamation.

http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/message_from_dagoth_ur.shtml and in the Nerevarine's Dagoth Ur dream:

"In my dreams, a tall figure in a golden mask spoke to me. "Lord Nerevar Indoril, Hai Resdaynia! Long forgotten, forged anew! Three belied you, three betrayed you! One you betrayed was three times true! Lord Voryn Dagoth, Dagoth Ur, steadfast liegeman, faithful friend, bids you come and climb Red Mountain! Beneath Red Mountain, once again, break your bonds, shed cursed skin, and purge the n'wah from Morrowind!""

Hmm, you're right... that first one does make it sound like it's part of a title. Okay, I'll bear that in mind.

As noted above, I have heard hai said (or written) as hail instead. And this is from the UESP:

Resdayn (sometimes also referred to as Resdaynia) was the name of the independent nation that once existed in the northeast corner of Tamriel. After joining the Cyrodilic Empire, the region was renamed Morrowind. Resdayn was originally inhabited by two now-extinct races, namely the Chimer and the Dwemer, then later was primarily inhabited by the Dunmer.

So it would seem Hai Resdaynia! would mean something along the lines of praising the old Morrowind before it was invaded by the Imperials, but I couldn't find a direct translation.

Also - I just remembered that Resdaynia was Dagoth Ur's original hope for Morrowind. He wanted to cleanse it of outlanders and rebuild the "Old Morrowind." So it would make sense that he would add that to his messages to the Nerevarine.

I think it might mean "Protector of Morrowind", it's the name of the person, Nerevar, with his titles (For an example): Lord Nerevar Indoril Protector (Hai) of morrowind (Resdaynia)". That is his proffesion (a-ho! :D )

The fact that it is pronounced 'high' and is one letter from 'hail' isn't an indication of its translation, but whoever made up the word was quite aware of what english words a reader would associate it with.
