Questions: Ancient Advanced Races of Tamriel

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:18 am

I am doing some research for a mod I am making involving ancient ruins and a dungeon within Tramriel. Obviously there are plenty of ancient Elven dungeons everywhere out there so I was looking for something a little more intriguing in terms of races. I know the Dwemer were mostly in Morrowind but did they also extend into Tamriel?

If anyone could provide me with a good website that has detailed information on ancient races especially in Tamriel I would greatly appreciate it as I would like to have a nice accurate lore filled mod with plenty of enjoyment and exploration as well : )

Thanks.

According to the http://www.imperial-library.info/dwemer/guide.shtml, Dwemer ruins can be found on Vvardenfell, mainland Morrowind and Hammerfell. The only two games in which Dwemer ruins can be found are Morrowind and Redguard.
The http://www.imperial-library.info/ is probably going to be your best source for research. The http://uesp.net may have some other stuff, but most of what you want will be at the Library.

Cyrodiil, not Tamriel ;)
Tamriell is the continent, and Cyrodiil is the province.

Anyway, besides the nitpicking, Cyrodiil doesn't have that many ancient cultures that were "advanced" enough to leave ruins after them.
I suppose you could make it a burial mound/holy place of one of the many aboriginal human cultures of the area.

There's also the mention of an aboriginal bird-people in that Topal the Pilot book, though they are mostly revered as made up by the author. They could make a pretty good base for a mod.
Or maybe I'm just a svcker for bird-men (No, I do not mean shemales :D )

:D

Great post Villfarelse I loved the Shemale part. :D

And it quite depends on how you see it but the Dragons could be considered Advanced, but I'm not completely sure if they died out or moved away or are just hiding somewhere.

Dwemer are supposed to have ruins all over Tamriel, but it seems to have been retconned into only Morrowind and Hammerfell. Cyrodiil, of course, has Ayleids, and Skyrim has Falmer.

Though Falmer did not leave ruins. Whether they just didn't build stuff to last or the Nords destroyed them remains to be seen... Or retconned.

Welcomes to Lore 101 chewy moon person

The Dwemer invaded Argonia at one time - the area the Imperials call Black Marshes and have ruins there - and I believe they have ruins in the mountains that separate Morrowind and Cyrodiil. But please note that though the Dwemer settlement of Morrowind predated the start of the Dunmer they do not appear to be older than the Chimer (the race the Dunmer came from) who were refugees that travelled from Sumerset Isle.

The Most ancient beings in Black Marshes are said to be the Hist - they are Tree-people and had a civilisation there and beyond. Most of their lands were 'drowned' by the et'Ada when they had their little dispute ...

You will have noted references to the Aldmer and Ayleids from Oblivion.

The Khajiit claim their civilisation predates that of mer and men - but it appears they stayed in what is now called Elsweyr.

The most ancient beings are supposedly those races/beings that became or devolved from 'Gods'/'Daedra' (can Daedra be included in that word?) - the et'Ada - but it is interesting that the Nords do not seem to talk in terms of et'Ada, but rather name their 'Gods' and refer to them more as people. Offhand I can't think of any structures other than the first Tower that might be ascribed to the et'Ada.

Offhand I can't think of any structures other than the first Tower that might be ascribed to the et'Ada.

I might have an explanation for that. Firstly, the Nordic national character would have them think of a Hero-God as a being that can be understood, interacted with, and learned from. A good amount of thier gods, both et'Ada and otherwise, like Ebon Arm or somebody, are as such spoken of as some being that isn't totally foreign, but in most all ways superior in strength or some particular ability to man.

Also, remember that the only full gamesworths of lore we have are Morrowind (Dunmer, AKA Aldmer-type culture) and Cyrodiil (Imperial, or High-Elf Lite culture, a butchering of Nordic and Ayleid religion used by Alessia to keep her Nordic allies while not forcing the assorted slave peoples to renounce thier Ayleid gods completely). Both Elven or semi-elven. We have as yet seen pretty much no full gamesworth of Lore for a human province or belief set (A fact which irks me greatly). As such we really only have an elven perspective on the way thibngs happened, and also lack a fuller knowledge of the ancient men.
