Newb: Interior Water not showing

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:25 pm

Hello,

I've really only just started with the G.E.C.K so this might be a stupid question

I've just created a new interior cell based off Oasis Caves (duplicated from), and my problem is there is no water in my cave. I've tried going to my cells options and changing the default water level to somewhere around the X axis of one of my static items yet nothing has shown up in-game or in-editor, so i'm stumped.

I've googled water in interior cells and it hasn't really shown much, i've also had a look at some interior cells from the main game (nuka-cola plant 02) and the water they use in the cell is actually a placeable object, i also found on google that the G.E.C.K actually crashs with placeable water when it interacts with a static object (not sure how trust-worthy the reference is) but surely you can understand my confusion.

Any tips or answers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I'm not sure about getting the "default cell water level" up to a point where you can use it as if outside and whatnot but make sure you're selecting a noise filter and all that nonsense. You can also use placeable water where you need it, it doesn't crash the G.E.C.K. (at least not anymore then anything else...). When you place the water you'll then need to select everything "under" the water (so like the static tiles that make up the room/level that have their floor underwater) and tell them that they refract the placeable water "above" them (you need to do this). Vica-versa for stuff above the water, select them and mark the water as reflects (looks better at the cost of performance, optional).

If you did it right when you select the water there will be dark blue lines and boxes going to everything being refracted and light blue lines and boxes to everything being reflected.

Okay, that helped heaps :D

Another question though, im using EpicCave walls, the really large ones and the water is only knee height on the player, so i set the cave walls to reflect & refract the water as its both under and above, but it makes the water in game have this weird browny highlights.

What would be the best way to get good looking water with the way i have everything set out, and is it okay to make my walls both reflect and refract
