Appearence of cross-breeds?

Helloes!

I was writing a background story for my character, with her mother being a Breton and her father being a Dunmer. And I was wondering, who would she take after? I think I've read that the children of two different races, end up looking like their mother. So in my character's case, she would look like a Breton.

So does that mean they don't inherit any traits from their father's race? And would it be a break of lore if I made my character held some elvish features?

If I remember correctly, I think I read that Symmachus was a strong man, and that the reason is due to some Nord blood in him. (It's been years since I've read the Real Barenziah, so I could have my facts wrong here. :P )

Any help on this matter would be lovely, as I've always liked the idea of a half elf, half human child. :)

The bretons are half elf half human. While they presumably resemble their ancestral mothers, they did inherit the magical traits of their elven fathers, so I guess it must be possible.

After much anolysis of living specimens, the Council long ago determined that all "http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Races" of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Mer and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Races#Man may mate with each other and bear fertile offspring. Generally the offspring bear the racial traits of the mother, though some traces of the father's race may also be present.

Bretons are already cross-breeds, as has been stated. It's not totally without possibility for your breton to have red eyes or some other dunmeri trait. The real only hard and fast rule is that they resemble their mother's race more than the father's. As long as your character is obviously breton, and the dunmeri features are more or less subtle, let your imagination go free, man. :D

It would be quite interesting to see a Breton with Red eyes, or a very harsh Morrowindish Dunmer voice. :)

Now I got the urge to do some new RP.

The idea that Bretons are genuine 'half-elves' is a little silly. All we know is that a couple of millennia ago, some of the mer that controlled the territory of what is now High Rock may have interbred somewhat with some of the enslaved human indigenous population. Labeling them 'half-elves' is roughly equivalent to calling today's British people 'half-Normans' (and that hasn't even been a thousand years).

True, but suffice to say every Breton had both Aldmer and Nede blood, to some degree.

I tend to think of it this way: Dunmer mum +Imperial dad= Dunmer with clipped ears who dosen't live quite so long.

Yes, but I believe this was the result of many generations of interbreeding. It's unlikely that a first-generation cross-breed would show many obvious Dunmer traits such as red eyes, though I guess it is possible.

The main character of my own fic is an Imperial who's half-Nord on her father's side. She has red hair, and is a little taller and lighter-skinned than most Imperial women, but most of her inherited Nord traits show up in her personality rather than her appearance. Serenity, maybe that's something you could consider for your own story?

Thanks to you all for the replies, it helped a lot! :)

I wanted my character to mostly resemble a Breton, but have typical elf-like ears, or other small features like that, I just didn't want to break any lore, but now I know more than before so I'll let my imagination run freely. (To a certain extenct anyways.)

And Helena, I think that sounds great. Would be fun if my character inherited her father's somewhat short temper.
