Problem....

Ive always had trouble with CS. Everytime i try to create a new weapon or piece of armor, and i go to add the .nif files or the icons, it just pops up with a file error saying Invalid Directory. Has anyone had this problem or at least know how to fix it? i would really love to be able to use CS...

"Invalid Directory" would seem to indicate an incorrect file structure. Or it could be that the CS is trying to be difficult. There is another way to get the .NIF into the CS, beside right clicking and selecting "New":

1. Open the folder that contains the .NIF.
2. Open the CS and navigate to the Weapons heading.
3. Drag the .NIF from the folder into the Weapons list in the CS. A new entry will be made with the exact same name as the .NIF.

Once that's done, you can find the new entry and modify it's stats as desired. You'll still have to add the weapon's icon manually, though.

The CS requires all the folders you use to be sub-folders of the Oblivion/Data folder. Are you trying to use something outside that? Just copy the mesh over into a sub-folder of Oblivion/Data/Meshes and it should work properly from there.

No im not... All of my folders are already sub-folders of the Oblivion/Data folder... thats where im going to in the CS menus, but it still gives me the "Invalid Directory" error...

Well, its the directory the game expects which it gets from the system registry.
Where-ever your system registry says the game is, that is where its looking for the directory. Otherwise, anything else is invalid.
This is mostly only an issue if you have installed the game multiple times to different locations and are using the wrong folder.

Another cause might be you are pointing to the textures folder instead of the meshes folder. I find that the CS seems to always 'start' in the wrong folder when assigning meshes.
