What Age Range Are Your Characters?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:40 am

I've been wondering about this recently, after I noticed pretty much all of my characters are fairly young.

I do this because they're inexperienced when they start the game, and they develop. Much how my roleplaying goes.

So, I voted 17 - 20 because even when I play Dunmer (who mature older, and live longer) they tend to be age 20 - 25 which is roughly 17 - 20 ish in human years (maturity terms) I believe. I'm not entirely sure though.

What about you?

I was actually just thinking about this earlier today. I usually don't take age into consideration when I make my characters. In addition to life expectancy for each race varying from about 60 to 300 or so, I'm more concerned with personality and how that effects the character. Age becomes irrelevant.

However, if I had to assign an age to my main character, Nona Sintalius, I think I'd say she's around 28-30. She's an Imperial so it would be the same as 28-30 for us.

I don't think I'd ever make a character younger than 20. It would just feel odd to have such a young character for me. I'd rather play as advlts.

My current character is a 30-something Altmer.

There's no "usual age" for me, though. When I start a character, I only have a race and a name, and a rough idea of the character's background. Then I use the Random feature until I get a face that "fits." Then I just tweak a bit, things like hair, mouth, and eyes, but usually don't change the age. I'm often surprised by the result, and I feel it leads to more "insight" into the character, and more of a "connection." It's as if I am "meeting" the person, rather than "creating."

Buffy spent her 18th birthday in the Imperial Prison. She is now 20. Acadian is between 500-600 - not bad for a dead Nordic dragonrider. :twirl:

I don't really know. How do you tell? It's not like you have an option to assign a number to your character's "age", just a slide to adjust the appearance. I guess mine are somewhere in their late 30's-early 40's.

My current character is 15, but I have had characters that fit all the other options.

Lissa is 19. She has had quite a fullfilled life for one so young :)
Jessie is only 17, whereas Lissa's trusty Guardian Spirit is around the 400 mark. He hasnt been dead long, unlike other GS's.

This. That explained it better than I did. I usually start with a base idea of where I want to go with a specific character and what I want them to be like, but after that they take on a life of their own, and they always surprise me with their behavior and personality.

As he′s Dunmer it′s really hard to tell his true age, him not telling me makes it even harder. I′d guess however that if he was human(ish) he′d be about 20-25

Cayo (an Imperial Battlemage) is currently 22. He's one of the youngest Battlemage Officers of all the Legion.

21 to 30 at the moment. Usually both female and male characters end up in the 40s. So I'm playing a little reckless at the moment.

Human races(Imperial, Breton, Nord and Ra Gada) - Normally from 25-40
Elven races(Dunmer and Altmer, I don't play Bosmer) - Between 60 and 120
Orsimer - 25-40(not sure how long they live)
Normally I don't play the beast races, but I think I would go for fairly young if I decide to do it.

Most recently, I've been following Tina (Bettina, actually, but she goes by Tina) - an Imperial warrior - very noble and righteous, doing the main quest, long sword and light armor. I hadn't considered her age - that's just a detail that comes out as a result of the character's personality rather than the other way around - but she's just recently started going through something of a mid-life crisis, so I'd guess her at somewhere in her 30s or maybe even early 40s. I'm thinking 30s.

I think I decided that my character was about 23 when I first started playing, but he seems older now, so maybe I'll retcon him up to 27 or 28.
