accidentaly stolen spoon

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:42 pm

its always realy annoying to pick up some item on accident and then suddenly there are guards swarming you. maybe this time around instead of having the shopkeep/homeowner scream for the guards they can walk up to you and tell you to give them back the item, and if you refuse, THEN call the guards. would save alot of hassle. thoughts?

In Fallout 3, whenever you took something you weren't supposed to, if anybody saw you, the first thing they'd do is walk up to you and swipe it right back from your inventory, accompanied by the obligatory "that's not yours, ass-for-brains" statement. It's safe to assume that we'll see more of that than the guards throwing you in jail for that zero-value spoon.

The improved Radiant AI technology is also more aware of how a citizen should react to your actions. As you perform tasks for them or terrorize them by ransacking their home, the NPCs develop feelings about you. If you're good friends with a particular NPC and barge into his house during the middle of the night, he may offer you lodging rather than demand you leave the premises. “Your friend would let you eat the apple in his house,” Howard says. If you swing your weapon near an NPC, knock items off their dinner table, or try to steal something of value, they'll react with an appropriate level of hostility given their prior relationship to you.

I think it'll be fine.

then you will DIE HORRIBLY IN JAIL SUFFERING FOR YEARS IN DARKNESS as the guards have their way with you.

as the dragon lords saidth:

"thou shalt not toucheth another man's spoon for it be a crime most foulth, thou shalt not moveth that spoon for the foundations of heaven restth upon it"

In Fall-out there was no real organized law, therefore those who you stole from would deal with you themselves. In one of the GI articles it stated that in Skyrim how people respond to your actions depends on their relationship with you. If you break into a house of a friend they will respond by offering you lodging as opposed to asking you to leave. If you take an apple from them they would be fine with it. In oblivion some people would fight you themsleves if you tried stealing from them. If you accidentally steal from a shop keep I dont see why people think it is unreasonable for them to shout for the guards.

well, think about RL, if i go to the store and and the cashier sees me pocket a $5 bracelet, they are not going to call the cops, they are going to confront me and tell me to hand it back.

When you steal the bracklet are you wearing armor and carrying weapons. Do you think the cashier would call the cops if you were carrying a gun or walk up to you and ask for it back?

your missing the point here, if you touch a 0 value piece of trash and and someone screams "HALP HALP THIEF!" its just unreasonable, under different circumstances the AI should act differently, but getting thrown in jail for sliding those shoes an inch to the left is NOT reasonable, no matter how heavily armed you are.

You dont get arrested for touching stuff you get arrested for stealing stuff. In Oblivion you could drag stuff around without consequence, it is when you actually clicked on it prompting the steal mechanic that you caused an alarm. Stealing is stealing regardless of the value of the item. Walk into someones house uninvited and steal one of their spoons....see how they react.

Huh? That didn't happen in my game. You sure it's not from a mod? I still remember accidentally stealing a fork in the Underworld when I was actually trying to talk to the guy standing behind the table, and the next thing I know the citizens are ducking as everyone else starts shooting at me.
