How come i can't import .obj into NIFskope anymore?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:39 pm

Whenever i try to import this http://www.flickr.com/photos/50868892@N08/4978616727/ into NIFskope, all i get is this http://www.flickr.com/photos/50868892@N08/4978621349/. I was doing the same way i did a previous mod by selecting a similar Fo3 item, going into NiTriData and replacing it with mine. With the armour it already says NiTriShape though, has it got something to do with that?

tutorial i was using: http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Basic_Guide:_From_Modeling_Program_to_the_GECK

Because you can't import an obj and expect it to magically get rigged to the skeleton. You post many threads about importing things into nifskope, but the simple fact is, it doesn't always work. Majority of the time, it will not work. You need to learn to use a modeling program. Trust me, it will make doing everything you have asked about 1000 times easier.

yeah i think that's the problem 2. Rigging in max is pretty easy but i dont think anyone wrote tutorial for it. You can download malos tutorial from fallout3nexus which uses blender to rig armor. You can just import your mesh from max in blender, set it all up and export it (works for me). Besides that blender is free software you can dl on the blender website (just do quick google search on these things)

A lot of times the object is still there at it's center, just very, very small.. Zoom way the heck in and you may find it at the axis intersection, turned on its side most likely. This can also happen if you try to paste data from a NiTriShape into NiTriStripsData type, or vice versa.
