Game World Size

I'd honestly want Skyrim to be the same size as Cyrodil (Oblivion), but by lore it should be smaller. Although I think if it is smaller than Cyrodil, I think they will focus more on making everything unique in the game as much as possible.

Neither one of those maps are the least bit accurate.
The oblivion one is the size of the in game map which doesn't show the entire worldspace.
The actual specs are:
Tamriel Worldspace Specifications:
Width...............134 Cells
Hieght..............129 cells
Total Cells.........13396
That takes into account the huge chunk missing in the lower left corner.
If you want to count Cyrodiil's usable cells use my cell grid map.

Chances are very good that the Skyrim map doesn't show the entire worldspace either. It does show the # of playable cells though. However we have no idea how many game units across those cells are so we still won't have any idea how big it actually is.

Thank you! I had been looking for just such a map for ages... Ok now I know im right about it... those squares on the skyrim map arnt cells. They are work units blocks of cells. very likely 3 by 3 cells in size. Because there is no way in hell they fit a town into one cell or a city into 4. Not unless cells are very different in size from ob.

I can't decide how large I'd like the world to be without considering the content in it, its placement, the terrain, physical barriers, etc. The two are part and parcel of one another in my opinion.

I voted biger than oblivion because oblivion is small. I want them to bring back Morrowinds endurance and slow us down and lower our jumps. Doing that will make the bigger game world seem even bigger. That and horses will be less slow now. :)

Please, don't say that! Characters in Morrowind were tetraplegic! The feeling of how big the world is shouldn't depend on your character incredibly slow pace... and the jumps were quite horrible in both games, being in Morrowind very low and in Oblivion very high, plus the bad animations.

I would want Skyrim to be bigger than Oblivion. That means more cities and dungeons and villages. And also more unique places and landmarks and some secret locations. In Oblivion there was this hidden trap door that led into a secret chamber that had boss level loot ( or booty :hubbahubba: ).

Probably even the devs will answer this poll with bigger. The problem is not in the design, it's purely a limitation of how large you can make something in a certain amount of time and with a certain budget. Making it larger will make it of lesser quality. And quality is - up to a certain level - more important than quantity. And yes, I am aware quality and quantity go hand-in-hand and are an intregal part of each other, but the argument still stands when it comes to map size.

To comment on the speed issue: Yes, Morrowind's character moved way too slow without buffing yourself. But Oblivion's character moved way too fast, even with very low speed. They should aim for something in between, but definetely a lot faster than Morrowind at low speed/athletics.

500 square kilometers would be fine. Daggerfall size would be the best.
