How will Final Kill Animations work for Mages?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 3:12 pm

As an aside: Would someone briefly explain what distinguishes a mage PC in these games from any other PC, (besides wearing robes)?

Eh, beats me, I'm a stealthy player...well...unless I eat too many beans..then I use my stinking cloud.. (bad finishing move image...bad bad!!)

Mage uses predominantly magic based attacks, yes?

that's about it as far as I know

I was interpreting it as death by magic

Use of magic more than stealth or physical combat?

I think there's a bit of confusion.

In other games like DA:O, when Alistair, a warrior, kills a goblin, he'll cut off its head or stab him in the torso and slowly take it out.

I was wondering if anything like that would happen for Mages.

Maybe like...ya, I got nothing.

I think I just answered my own question.

Since they said that people can do a final kill animation, how will it work for Mages?

Because when that came in mind, I don't think they can really do anything, like in Dragon Age: Origins.

I loved being the Mage, but seeing those special kill animations with all the warrior did made me feel kinda jealous.

So, will there be a final kill animation for Mages?
If so, what would happen?

Well, I imagine that your character won't make any fancy moves, but your victims will. For example, a bandit set on fire will panic and run around. A troll killed by a frost spell wil turn into an ice slab and shatter. And so on.

@Comberry

Reflect damage = enemy swings at you, then gets blown away in a flash of gore. (as if they were struck by their blow)

Absorb health = falls to his knees and dies

Poison = gasps at throat, wails on floor, and falls to ground

If magic isn't like the balls they were in Oblivion, they could be more like a beam connecting from your hand to the opponent. As they die of the beam, you'd finish of with a bigger "wave" on the beam, hitting the enemy violently, causing their death and possible dismemberment/scorching.

An ignited hand penetrating the foes chest and ripping out his heart. No, but really why final moves? Will it be like small cut-scenes interfering the gameplay. I hope not, and if, leave it be. Leave it be TES

I would love for my character to use a fire on touch spell, grap the opponent face, and burn it to crips.

Maybe that's just me

I want to ignite someone and have them run around burning for a while before they fall over. Too bad the technology wasn't in place for them to light buildings on fire as they ran. Take that, thatched roof!

Touch spells-- Normal attacks

Grabs enemy on the shoulder or back and unleashes magickal hell on the poor sob.

Finishers --

Grabs enemy by the face, and gives a mouth full of

Lightining - Guy reverbs violently and satisfiyingly drops jittering to the jolts

Fire - Screams bloody murder before slumping over, and if not killed instantly runs around as his head is on fire until eventually dieing.

Frost - His screams are snuffed out buy the frigid grip, how far/strong the particular spell is, results in him slumping over and his head smashing into pieces or simply dying.

Punches would work in the same was as well :D double might burning shock fist of the north star?

Ranged spells are self explanitory.

I don't think there is, but maybe there's special death animations for when f. ex. someone gets roasted.

I'm thinking fire will burn the NPCs body to a crisp if it will kill them. Shock should either make them convulse and they fall to the ground dead and smoking or they should explode, either way hehe. Finally, frost should freeze the person and they shatter.

Not to put a damper on your parade or anything, but there has been no indication from GI or BGS that anyone aside from melee users would have "finishing moves." To be quite honest, I think finishing moves would really look silly if you weren't using some sort of melee weapon.

My reasons for believing only melee users will have finishing moves:

First of all, you need to consider that every aspect of combat is being overhauled in some way, shape, or form.

- Archery is being changed to be more deadly and have the potential for one hit kills. It also forces the user to stand still.

- Magic is being changed where one can actually manipulate many of the 85 spells in use them in different manners (fire ball, flamethrower, fire trap). Different magic spells can be used in either hand, and is really up to the player how they use them.

- Melee is getting finishing moves to keep combat exciting, unpredictable, and fresh. There is also shield bashing with shields and weapons, but it's obviously more effective with shields. There will also be more staggering involved.

As you can clearly see outlined here, every aspect of combat is being improved in some manner. Yet again, BGS has not given any indication finishing moves would be for any other type of fighter, except melee users. Just a heads up so you don't set yourself up for disappointment.
