Question about the races

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 3:53 pm

What race is considered the most closely related to a native american? What I mean is which of the races are tribal and most in tune with the land, that sort of thing?

You can't really compare real life cultures to TES cultures, they're very different.

Maybe the Bosmer. In Valenwood they tend to live in small tribe-like groups among the forests, if I remember correctly.

Well, the Bosmer are very in-tune with the land and nature, but some Nords believe in nature spirits.

The most tribal are probably the Ashland Dunmer.

I think Bethesda did a pretty good job with making races unlike real-life comparisons. Having things like "Great Houses" usually leads to one house coming out on top, but Elves have a culture that's been around for a while, in which they don't do all that much to move forward. They aren't very ambitious as a culture, and thus the Houses remain, and they seem to have a hard time accepting change too. The exception may be the Bosmer, because they under-go change frequently... maybe even too frequently.

But there are Bosmeri clans and trbies. There were also tribal clans in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, and North America. For them to be "Native American", I'd probably need more evidence than them living in tribes, there were Native American cities with hundreds of thousands of people in South America, and they had established mailing and road systems in some nations.

Well I know the dunmer (dark elves) have tribes but thats probably as close as it gets. The bosmer (wood elves) might have tribes but I don't really know I'm just guessing because they seem kind of "primitive" and are the most in touch with nature as far as I know so I guess that kind of Native Americanish.

Edit: Ah, Matut you beat me to it.

Bosmer would be the easiest choice. I have always seen them as Fist Nation like people. They live closest to nature and they do not harm nature.

If you're looking for that "Connectedness with Nature" aspect, I'd choose Bosmer or a specific group of Nords called the Skaal.

I would think the Dunmer. Their behavior in Morrowind with the different houses and the tribes of the plains remind me a lot of native americans .

That's not entirely true, while no race in the Elder Scrolls is actually identical to a real life culture, most of the cultures do take something from real life cultures, just look at the Imperials, for example, they tend to give off a sort of Roman Empire vibe, though of course that's just one example.

Anyway, Ashlanders might be seen as closer to native Americans, though I might say that they're similar to just a tribal culture in general and maybe aren't based on only one specific culture, some might say Bosmer are like that too, though I think Bethesda was more trying to play around with the elf stereotype of being close to nature and good at archery when they designed the Bosmer rather than basing them off a specific real life culture.

They also put a unique spin on it and made them eat only meat in their homeland, because they weren't allowed to harm a plant due to the Green Pact.

The Dunmer Ashlanders are more in tune with the Bedouin Arabs or the old Israelites.

Bosmer are the nature lovers. But I don't think there's a race all that similar to the Native Americans... seeing as most Native Americans had drastically different cultures. Some were nomads, others farmers, and others built huge cities and pyramids.

I'd say, for the North American Native Ameicans, at least... probably the Nord Berserkers of Skyrim.

I always saw the Nords as a nod to viking culture. I say Dunmer because all the different types of houses/tribes kinda represent the large variance in Native American culture.
