Little question about factions,

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:19 pm

I'm a little unsure on how to proceed with this one, I want to avoid mod conflicts and, other issues.

I received permission to use the assets from http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14402 I've set them up as new creatures and, created there own faction. I would like them to be allies with the molerats but, I'm not sure of how safe it would be to add them to the molerat faction.

as it stands when there near any molerates they get killed by them.

I've always avoided changing anything from vanilla, I've used unique forms to avoid issues and, conflicts so, I guess my question would be how bad would it be if I add them to the Molerat faction. would this cause issues? Would it mess with mods like MMM?

Should I simply not have them in the same cell with the molerats, even though I'm trying to make my mod feel more like classic fallout?

Thanks for any advice.

I don't have much to do with faction....yet.

But I've added other NPC's to factions I'm not allowed to post on the forum just to see what happend and it worked out ok. Yao Guais don't attack mole rats try adding them to the animal friend faction.

UPDATE from previous

it worked for robots animal won't attack them if the robot is under animall freind faction. you can then just create a new rat faction if you wanted

I experimented a lot with faction as I made the Iguanas. You can give the rats their own faction, but to be 100% compatible you should add the rat faction to the molerat faction as friend and every other faction who shouldn't attack the rat. It's a lot of work and a little minefield if another mod changes the original faction settings of a changed creature.
I did this with the Iguanas but as I added MMM for a test it was simply over. Martigens creatures had a lot of fun with my little fellows and the player wouldn't find any of them alive.

I ended up with a much simpler solution. The Iguanas have no own faction. I added the creature (the Iguana itself) to all of the factions who they should be befriended. This way I had no problems with MMM or vanilla creatures.

I tried your simple solution first but, the problem I ran into when adding the molerat faction to them was, they broke the "Wasteland Survival Guide" Molerat quest. I've tried a few things now but, haven't had much luck.

My next thought is to give them, will say, the dog faction or, radroach faction. They are neutral to the rats so, this may solve my issues.

Unless, I'm thinking compleately backwards from your comment, are you simply saying to add the wanted faction to my creatures form or, edit there faction to include the rats themselves?

At this point I'm having the same issue where my new little guys keep getting bumped off before the player really gets a chance to play with them.

thanks for any help

To make my previous statement a bit clearer: I only added the factions to the creature form, nothing more.

ok, then if I use the Radroach faction or, dog faction, they shouldn't affect the Molerat quest. I'm not going to have them spawn anywhere accept cells I've created so, this should work.

thanks.

I will try it to see if it's the fix.

Thanks sesmo,

I've gotten them to work properly, it was the Molerat Hit Faction that was adding them to the "Wasteland Survival Guide, Molerat Quest".

all fixed and. I appreciate your input.
