Allowing Multiple Master FIles

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:56 am

Searching turned up nothing on this, so here goes:

I edited the GECKCustom.ini file to allow the use of multiple master files at once, but when I try to load one of my .esps with all three current .esms checked as well it fails with an error message saying that loading multiple master files is not allowed.

The relevant line is

bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=0

And I changed it to

bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1

as instructed by the GECK tip list on the wiki, but the attempts fail and upon checking the .ini file again I find that the setting has been forcibly reverted to 0 thus negating my change.

Has something been altered between iterations of the GECK that auto-blocks permitting the use of multiple masters at once? If so, that strikes me as rather shortsighted given that the DLCs are being released as .esms and blocking their loading at the same time as the main game will make modding any assets therein something of a pain.

This may help you....I hope cause it worked for me.

1. Open the GECK but don't load anything.

2. Open your GECK Custom .ini file and change your setting to this bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1

3. Save the file, then close file.

4. Load up multiple .esm's and enjoy.

So if I'm reading step 1 correctly I shouldn't load any files prior to attempting the alteration. Hmmm, I did do said change after having initially failed to load multiple master files, so it might not have been accepted by the GECK itself.

Gonna try it right now and see what happens. *wanders off to fire up GECK*

Cool, it works. :celebration:

It would seem that having already tried and failed to load with multiple masters not permitted you cannot force it to think that you can do that, however if you tell it that's alright before attempting a multi-load operation you can do so with no problem. Kinda weird, that, unless said failure sets a flag we cannot see (or something like that) that causes it to ignore attempts to convince it otherwise until/unless you start a 'clean' session.

What's even weirder is I have mine set to zero in the geck custom.ini but I can load multiple master files. There is only one geck custom ini file isn't there.
