Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 2:05 pm

Hi..
I was wondering if its possible to change my major skills in the middle of a save?
I'd like to take out Block Major and change it with Restoration.

Thank you :)

Simple answer. Nope you can't I'm afraid. When you have picked your majors and left the sewers there is no going back.

I know that, but I was thinking console wise?
And are there any consequences? Like bug wise?

If your on pc then type showclassmenu in the console.

May need to adjust attributes afterwards with modpca command.

Make sure you save your game before you do this.

Console wise and mods wise yes it can be done. However I don't use the console if I can help it as I RP and feel that it takes from the game. I would suggest if you are going to do that then yes you ware going to want to have a back-up save just incase.

Because when you alter your class via the console it resets your attributes and skill counters.
You can fix them with modpca and modpcs respectively.
EG: modpca endurance 50 will set your endurance to 50 and modpcs marksman 50 will set your marksman skill to 50.

Okay - to change majors later in the game -

Save your game.

Open the console. Type in "showclassmenu". Go through the class selection process just like you did in the beginning, except with the new major(s). You might want to write down all the details of the earlier version of the class, since nothing will be highlighted this time through - you have to do it all from scratch.

Keep going through the class selection screens UNTIL you get back to the first one - the overview screen. Do NOT click "Done."

Press esc.

Save the game in a new slot.

Load that new saved game.

You now have the same character with different majors.

If you click "Done" on that overview screen, then it resets all of your experience for any skill gains to 0 and, if appropriate, it changes the skill numbers to reflect changes in specialization or such. If you don't click "Done" and just save it at that point and reload the save, then everything stays the same and only the majors change. However, the problem with that is that now you potentially have a major skill with a level of 5 and a minor skill with a level of 40 (for instance). This is because major skills start out at 25 plus bonuses while minor skills only start out at 5 plus bonuses. What I generally do with those is just swap them straight across - change the score for the new major to the same as what the old major was and change the score for the new minor (the old major) to what the old minor was. That's not exactly right, but it's close enough. And yeah - use "modpcskill" ("modpcs") to make those changes.

Is modpcs gonna cause the game to think I increased a major and then mess up the level up like advskill does?

Short answer (for the benefit of the lurkers - we got this sorted out by PM) is yes. That was my oversight. Skills increased with modpcs will count toward level-up, but since you haven't actually gained the experience to gain those skills, the game will then fail to give you any more skill increases until you've "earned" the ones you gave yourself.

The command you want is "setactorvalue" followed by the name of the thing you're changing, followed by the number. That will simply change the number and won't affect anything else.
