How is LA Noire?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:43 am

I'm getting it this evening. I've loved Rockstar's work on this generation of consoles (GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption). I'm not expecting this to be quite as good as I've heard the map doesn't play a big part and is more of a backdrop for the story, but I like the general premise of the game and I'm looking forward to spending a week or two playing it.

Yep, I'm getting this weekend off E-Bay. Red Dead Redemption is my favorite game of all time, so I'm a big fan of R*'s work.

If you're going in expecting RDR your going to be dissapointed. Team Bondi isn't Rockstar San Diego (RDR) or Rockstar North (GTA 4). This game is about the interviews and searching for clues. That's the real meat.

For me, it's not worth buying until it's $20 or less. Mostly because it gives you 20-30 hours of gameplay and the replay value isn't necessarily high once you beat everything..because everything turns out the same way in the end (or so I've read). So just one big playthrough and then it's over...that's not worth $60 for me anymore.

I've heard this too. I've heard it's not RDR or GTA and it's a completely new experience.

Been playing through it this morning.

Good stuff so far.

One thing that really rattles my cage however is the interrogation. Sometimes it's really difficult to know whether or not they're being truthful, and I find that very early on I have to ask a question with nothing to go on at all.

Frustrating.

Ah, but is that not the point to have good liars and bad ones?

Yep, I'm not expecting to go on crazy massacres or kamikaze choppers, in fact I'm glad Team Bondi has excluded the ability to pull your gun out. I'm going in with an open mind, I just hope it isn't too linear.

Is Team Bondi actually located in Sydney, Australia?

Then you're going to be disappointed.

Heard the game itself is great. On the other hand, I heard it is effectively over-heating consoles. Buyer beware.

Yea, there's reports of 360 and PS3 overheatings caused by the game which is weird. Rockstar issued a statement and said it's LA Noire causing it though. Must be an unfortunate coincidence...

I heard clearing your system chache can fix the overheating on PS3's.

The fix for the PS3 is to delete the game data (not save data). Fix for the 360 is to clear the cache.

What strikes me the most is how colorful it actually is. Usually in anything set during the 30's to 50's they mute the crap out of all the colors and make it look all depressing.

That seems odd, considering you're chasing a serial killer.

I'll bet that adds to the mood a lot.

Going to buy it tonight, probably start it tommorow morning.

SOUPED.

Spoiler

You only deal with a serial killer for the Homicide desk.

After you complete a case, there are case notes at the bottom that basically tell you, "if you said this," or "if you got to this place earlier" or "if you presented this piece of evidence" it would've yielded different results. I'm not paying attention too much during this play through so i'm definitely going to play through it again more fluidly.

My biggest problem right now is finding time to play through it. Its like sitting down and watching a TV show. I feel like I need to sit through a whole case before I can put it down and work.

Same. It's difficult to start a case up again half way through.
