[RELz] Inventory Search

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 5:41 pm

Since the Census and Excise Office is now available, I've found that I have quite a bit of modding time to focus elsewhere. Before I dive into Better Battles, I wanted to clear out a bunch of these half-done WIPs I've got piled up. This was one such thing.

This lets you search through your inventory for anything that matches a specific search word. Want to take a levitate potion, but have 18,000 potions? Search for "Levitate" (it is case sensitive unfortunately) and then click on the potion in the results. It will be instantly equipped.

TITLE: Inventory Search
VERSION: 1.0

PLUG-IN TYPE: Miscellaneous

BY: Fliggerty
CONTACT: http://www.fliggerty.com

After playing for a while, your inventory can get incredibly bloated, full of
dozens of potions, ingredients, picks, etc. It can take a while to sort through
all of those looking for the right thing that you need.
This mod provides a search feature for your inventory. Type a search string in
the input box and hit enter. You'll then be given a list of all items that match
the search. Click on an item and it will be instantly equipped.

This mod is dependent upon Morrowind Script Extender (MWSE)

*****************************************************************

6. CONFLICTS & BUGS

*****************************************************************

I have tried to avoid any conflicts with any common mods. I may have missed something
here or there, if I did please let me know!

The search term is case sensitive.

This mod will not work for some of you; there is nothing that can be done about that.
MWSE's key press detection and text input functions do not work with most non-English
keyboards and/or Morrowind distributions.

*****************************************************************

7. THANKS

*****************************************************************

Too many right now. Still compiling the list.
But to start it off:

Lady Godiva: Suggested this idea on the GHF Forums.
FreshFish: For giving us MWSE.
CDCooley: For continuing the support of MWSE
Bryss Phoenix: As always, infinite support and patience! She also tested this for me..
Those who discussed this on the ES Forums.
Everybody else who has always been supportive of modders in general.

I never really thought about it until someone asked me. This is really just a hacked-apart version of More Quick-Keys, but without the FPS impact. Simple in theory once I realized it could be done.

Fliggerty, do you think you would be able to make a mod that changes the buying/selling function so that I can type in a number instead of using the up/down arrows? It takes a long time if the default sale price of something is 5000 and I want to buy it for 3000. You have to hold the button down for such a long time. It would be very nice to just be able to type in the number instead.

No, unfortunately I can't do anything such as that. While MGE and FPS Optimizer can increase the haggle speed, it can't be affected by scripts.

...better Google it!

Sweet! Thanks, Fliggerty.

I reckon you are going to make in-game cell phones, GPS, I-pods and tablets before you are done. :D

Excellent work, Fliggerty. Only problem: CTD upon hitting enter if there's nothing in the search box. Should be fixed to either exit search box (preferable) or give a "invalid input" popup.

Whoa this is impressive, I don't mean to derail your thread but I must know how you did this (ok well it's not a must :P ) http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1104104-converting-oblivion-scripts/page__p__16156341__fromsearch__1&#entry16156341, I apparently "discovered" that we can't do substring searches ala OBSE, thanks to NMZmaster. Is that not the case then? Ta

Edit: Oo and I can't wait for better battles. (if I remember correctly) and that real-time strider ride!

Nope, no substring searches. Just splitting up IDs and comparing strings the hard way.

 I didn't know I needed this until I started using it.
Great time saver, especially in the heat of battle if you need a specific potion and it's not hot keyed.

I'm using the latest version. Got the default key setup, and chose to search for something in my inventory: Heather. When I hit Enter, I did a CTD. This repeated on 5 successive attempts to use it. I've tried quitting and restarting with it in place, and restarting a saved game where I need to run it again, selecting a different hotkey--no dice.

I like the idea of Inventory Search, so I hope we can get it working in my setup. Here's my modlist, not in order, but IS is almost at the end. Only my companion mods and my Mashed Lists.esp are ahead of it:

If it helps at all, I'm using MWSE 0.9.4.1, and run Morrowind via the MWSE Launcher.
