Some artwork

Post » Wed Aug 11, 2010 2:48 pm

This is an icy plateau type thing jutting from the snowy wastes of Skyrim. I had been seeing this plateau in my head for a while so I thought I would put it on paper. Then I added a nice little traveling mage gazing at the scenery.
I wasn't really confident enough with my background skills on this one, so I just left it as it is. Didn't want to ruin the drawing haha.

I would realllly like for some constructive criticism if there happen to be any other artists on the forums (I haven't really seen any, lately). And any other comments would be appreciated (I don't mind compliments haha) :disco:

I think you're taking away from this piece by not adding an environment. Its hard to judge the plateau without seeing the landscape around it, making it look unnatural.

I like the sheer scale of it though, nice. :goodjob:

I drew a couple of 1/2 hour drawings for Rumple-dee-dumple's fan fiction. I was supposed to do more, and also keep up with her awesome chapters, but I fell off the wagon and never got back on track.

I might draw up some new drawings because the Bethesda blog is taking new fan art. :)

Heya Rivaldo, a fellow artisan as well. : )

I like your sketch, and that Icy formation is immense compared to the figure before it. Too bad you didn't feel confident with adding a bit of background, because to show the depth of the large formation, even if it was in light shadow behind it, a forested treeline or better, a larger glacial formation lightly shadowed a bit darker behind it would give it the impression of more depth. For a sketch the plataeu delivers, on sheer size and the flat top of it. From the foundation, it is almost as if the entire piece came jutting from the ground itself to block the way of the traveler and his animal companion. As if some elemental force said "YOU CAN NOT GO ANY FARTHER!"

Thanks for the pointers. I will probably come back to this drawing, once I have come up with a nice, fluid, unique environment to surround what I have now. I'll get to it, sooner or later.

Also, good on you for drawing for a fanfic. I have trouble doing requests and/or working towards another persons vision. It's hard to incorporate what you believe would look good, with what another person thinks would look good.

As someone who used to do a lot of drawing, I liked your sketch.

It needs, at the very least, a horizon, though. Something to give an idea of its location in its environment. Is it on top of a glacier? A low horizon would convey that sense. Is it at the bottom of a mountain? A horizon near the top of the image would be useful. Detail is not necessary, just a subtle shading to give a horizon line would be all you need.

That's the question I have when I look at an otherwise very good image.

Love the style. Can't wait to see the finished version. If you can do a reflected glare, that would be a an awesome touch (I'm assuming the sun's at the person's back, ignore if wrong)

that is correct, as the shadow is being casted towards the north. :)

I have begun to add more into the picture. There is a background (which in my opinion is hard to decipher from the foreground). I got rid of the little rock next to the mage, as it looked awkward and out of place.

overall I'm a bit.... meh... on this drawing. The lake/bay in the background looks a bit bulgy. Idk lol.

I'm not an artist, but I am a musician. I wish I was good at art, but I can't grasp the concept of drawing depth and shadow and all that. I love good art though, especially fantasy-oriented. Looks like the beginnings of a good sketch in my opinion.

Rivaldo, love the addition and yes, it adds such depth greatly.

You can almost feel the remote coldness. A great sketch.

Took the words right outta my mouth, I felt cold looking at it.
If you add in some small details like the mages footsteps behind him, and some snowfall it'll be even better

It's a floating city type thing, chained to supports on the ground. I tried to go for a construction similar to a dwemer style. On top of the citadel, there are trees growing, with vines crawling down the sides of the dome.

kind of reminds me of the death star now that I think about it haha.
