Do we take the time to read? [Multi choice poll]

Post » Thu Aug 12, 2010 10:39 pm

Since i see many repeated threads in Brink forums,i'd like to know what we do.

I don't mind really if something is repeated,Admins are good here firstly, and secondly we,the rest can guide with links the new ones without complaining about their new thread,no?

But,i am curious to know as to what we do,if you feel like discussing it that is.

Thanks.

I go to http://www.brinkthegame.com/ and see whats new there, example a very "new" interview of the Devs, anolysing everything about balancing here http://www.next-gen.biz/features/balancing-on-the-brink ,very helpfull no doubt.

This is always my first move. After that i goto forums for a nice discussion with you guys ;)

I admit i don't use the other, well i don't use Facebook almost at all,bad experience from it...I use Twitter a lot though,i like it as a news source.

I usually come here for new things, sometimes the official website, I tend to stay away from Youtube. If a Brink article/interview comes up I'll usually read it all.

Bible?

You are absolutely right, forgot about that, sorry guys. You can choose "None of the above" though and explain.

Since you mention it i must say that you (i mean all u :) ) give the bible to new guys, still the "same thread" issue appears.

I come to the forum but lately stopped reading most of the threads (like the 1001st "What faction/bodytype/class will you pick and stay foreva!!!!???"), because I've read the same ones in the past minutes, hours, days, sometimes weeks or months already.

When this forum wasn't as crowded as it is now, I would actually link the old threads. But I don't see a point in doing this now.

There are a lot of repeated topics on the forum, and as the game gets closer to release, and after, there will be a lot more. It is called enthusiasm - a desire by new members to get thoughts, ideas and questions onto the forum and the majority do not bother to check more than the first or second pages to see if anything has already been posted. I am fine with that.

The forums are for discussing the game, I get annoyed (yeah - really) when someone posts a curt reply linking to a topic from a week or more ago and often rudely saying "use the search" or "look at the link in my signature", in fact I consider it quite rude and unhelpful. It is fine to link to a previous thread or information from elsewhere, but it also helpful to give an answer to the OP, it encourages new people to be part of the community and makes them feel welcome, something we all want. There are a number of members on here who have been around a long time and have seen it all, however, lets try to be kind to the new comers and give then all the help and advice they ask for, even if it does seem you are repeating yourself for the umpteenth time.

i agree with you like i just started using the forum 3-4 days ago and at first people were quite rude but as i found things people havent talked about i see myself getting more liked by the new users then the "been here since september" users. like i was kinda practicing for brink about 1-2 months before black ops was out.

Twitter is a really good way. I never really use mine (except for asking devs questions), but I have it set up to receive Brink and Splash Damage updates on my mobile - that way I get it instantly without having to get up off my ass. Technology is nifty.

I agree with you.
Still when someone says "use the search" you can't blame him,we know he's right but still we can answer also and as you said not beign rude.

For exmple english is not my native language so i don't understand everything completely, the much you anolyse it the better i'll understand it.

For me at least "repeat" is learning.

Can the wording of the option referencing the Brink Bible be changed? Because it's not the only source of information I referenced to learn about the game, and I'm continuing to look at other sources still.

I disagree with you.

It seems more like laziness to me. Enthusiasm is, when you want to find info, not ask for it and possibly wait an hour to get an answer (we are on a forum after all, not IRC).

As for discussing a game, I think a well organised forum helps a lot more than one big pile of everything you can talk about this game.
The daily updates on abilities get pushed behind way too fast, because there is no dedicated classes or abilities sub-forum.

You guys said you'd create those sub-forums towards release.
Well, it's merely a month and you can't read through the second page of threads without getting half of the first page filled with new posts already.

You can disagree all you like but we will give warnings to anyone rude to newcomers and that would include someone rudely telling them to search. Some people do read everything they can get their hands on, others come to the forum to find out if they are interested in the game and do that by asking a quick question or two. Being rude to them only serves to shove them away from the game and dim their enthusiasm to play the game. The more that decide to play it, the more competition and the more competition the more fun everyone will have and the more sells which equates to more and better games. That is how it works.

And yes, there will be sub-forums as promised when they are ready. Until then we have this section devoted to discussing the game, assisting others to understand the game and what we know about it and to welcome new members/players and speculate about the game.

If you want to politely link someone to another thread about the same discussion fine, but make sure you do it in a polite manner.

edit: Oh and don't call other members lazy, new or not. It's flaming and will result in warnings and suspensions.

I go to the Splash Damage forums for news, generally. And I'm subscribed to a few different Brink-related channels as well, so if a new trailer comes up I'll know about it.

Well i can see that even if many goto brinkthegame.com firstly, still not same number applies for reading the whole content of the interviews.

These interviews clarify many matters you know,it's good to read them even if boring.
