Because that's the way Hollywood portrays "bad guys". IRL, competent villians don't get caught because apparently, they learn from their mistakes.

Seriously, i was just watching the end of Hancock, and the guy had his chance, he could've just blown out his brains, but he kept talkin and talkin and talkin, and a guy comes up and chops off his arm...Why do villains always ruin their chances to do anything by talking too much

to make the good guys look like they know what they are doing!

I also love how the bad guy has impeccable aim until the VERY end of the movie, where they fail epically.

(except for the hired muscle - they ALWAYS svck...even I could shoot better than them and I've never even held a gun)
