Console Changes Right Before Skyrim

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 4:13 pm

I'm thinking since the ES games are so massive and requires a lot of computer force, wouldn't it be logic if a new type/newer version of a console comes out? Every ES game have been ground breaking and revolutionary and is always hard to run. Maybe a boost of some kind is required to run Skyrim, because of it's massiveness. It would really help to have a new console that runs better and delivers better graphics. What do you think?

After Sony and Microsoft just released Move and Kinect, we probably wont be getting new consoles for several more years.

I can't really answer this until I see the game in motion. Also, the Next Gen systems haven't even been announced yet, I don't want to wait for 2017 to play Skyrim.

Yeah, in order for skyrim to be significantly more complected than Oblivion they'd have to not run on the 360 or PS3.

Now you know how PC gamers have felt for the past 4 years, because no new consoles are coming out while people still lap up the old ones.

Well, if this is the case, we'll have to wait another 4 years for the next generation to start before we get Skyrim. Microsoft and Sony made the Xbox 360 and PS3 in mind with the fact that they want this generation to last for 10 years or so before having to start a new one. It's only been about 6, so we still have quite a ways to go.

Another 4 years of the consoles holding back true graphical innovations... :sadvaultboy:

No, not really- Bethesda doesn't make the consoles, why would new ones come out to suit Bethesda?

I think they've already announced the game is for Xbox360 and PS3.

If new consoles were en route, we'd already be hearing about them. They need time to build up credibility, pre-orders, and launch titles. Plus, Beth wouldn't be talking about 360s and PS3s. They'd say "we're not ready to talk about what we're launching on yet".

I was thinking about the console developers. New consoles would suit for the better, isn't that obvious?

Well... CryEngine 3 is built to be "next-gen ready" I think.
Perhaps this was done the same with Creation Engine. Who knows?

In any case, next-gen consoles will take a while...
I think around 2013.

They don't care about making a better video game, they care about the bottom line - and both consoles are selling *quite* well.

I remember before Oblivion came out they hinted that the next Elder Scrolls would be on this same generation of consoles. And then Fallout 3 happened and I assumed that would no longer be the case. I underestimated just how much technology has reached a plateau, and this generations corresponding longevity. Well...some of these consoles more than others, but we won't get into that here :celebration:

No, technology hasn't reached any kind of plateau, it's becoming more complex just as fast, if not faster, than it was 10 years ago. Even in the 360's limited upgrades the transistor size has halfed between the original and the current, and cutting edge sizes are about half of *that*. Technology is marching on, and the consoles aren't just being left behind, they were left behind a long time ago.

I personally am a console gamer. I was therefore hoping for a next gen console tailored for Skyrim :) That would've been awsome...

Not happening, that's why they've released things like Kinect and Move to extend the current gen's life- and the current gen is what Skyrim is being designed for and will be released on. In fact I'd swear someone pointed that out already. :P

Skyrim has been built starting around 2006 on this generation of hardware. If the next consoles were released in late production the history would have repeated: no time to work with the new hardware >> delay >> some of the game content suffers. I'm glad there were no new launches because now we can really see what Bethesda can do with their completely new engine on a completely familiar hardware. I expect it to shine! For Tes VI of course I hope there will be a good timing to build the game with the next gen consoles in mind.

Definitely not gonna happen. This has been one of the most expensive hardware cycles in videogame history, both for consumers (I said ONE OF before anyone corrects me lol) and for manufacturers. They only recently started making money back on those investments believe it or not. Everyone but Nintendo sold their hardware at a loss for years. They are going to stretch this generation out as long and in as many ways (microtransactions, DLC, avatar stuff) as they possibly can. Maybe in two or three years. Maybe.

Personally, I don't want to have to spend a boatload on another round of Upgrades, especially because I'd have to upgrade my board and processor to push my PC further than where it is at right now. All more or less to Play Oblivion. My Machine isn't High end at all, but it is capable of playing Oblivion at Max settings without a problem. With a Kid on the way, I doubt I'll have money for Skyrim, let alone the hardware to run it. (assuming I have the time to justify the investment in the game to begin with, of course).

Right. because getting a new system that you don't know the ins-and-outs of worked so well for Oblivion.

They know how to work with these consoles. Let them run with them, think of it as their "last real hurrah."

Plus, my wallet will stab me in my sleep if I tried to buy another console.
