Your Top Five Game Series

Post » Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:27 am

-caesar : the 4th was a disappointment, and in there zeus is kind of a distant relative like a cousin or so,the same with pharaoh.
-tes : goes without saying.
-earth : one of the best rts-series out there for its times.
-c & c : the very best rts-series.
-civ : some good.some not quite as good, overall outstanding, alpha centauri as a relative like uncle or some such,my favourite along with ptw.

series as such isn′t that many, there is games with two titles like homeworld, system shock, dungeon keeper and dungeon siege, which comes with a third this year actually, imo to be a serie it needs 3 titles at least I think, otherwise those mentioned in this paragraph would end up in the top 5 easy,so later this year dungeon siege qualify :D
Edit: thought of putting railroad tycoon in there, but it has limited fun, putting up railroads is timelimited, pretty much the same with sim city,it is somewhat limited how long it is fun to play those games.

5. Half-Life
4. Dark Forces/Jedi Knight
3. Total War
2. Elder Scrolls
1. Thief

I'm more excited for Thief 4 ( ) than TES:V and the only thing that could come close to those two is a Rome 2: Total War.

PS, where is the old /wub/ icon? I loved that thing.

I never played Caesar original or Caesar 2. 3 was the one I played, that and Pharaoh. Were the other good?

Caesar2 was pretty good.
Caesar4 was ok, especially the free build maps, but I never finished the campaign. Came close to the end, but then lost interest. C3 is still my fave &I'll occasionally replay it. I wish I could stick the new market ladies stuff into C3...

Pharaoh/Nile/Emperor I never got into. Have them all, just didn't get far. Never bought Zeus.

1. Age of Empires - one of my favorites (Age of Mythology counts too). AoE2 was the first video game I ever got addicted to. It's a shame they never made any games after Age of Mythology though.

2. The Elder Scrolls - stands pretty much only on the merits of Morrowind and Daggerfall. Age is not kind to the older games though, and the newer ones are kind of a disappointment. I cautiously await Skyrim to see what it brings to the table.

3. Homeworld - the best space games with space ships ever spaced in outer space.

4. Summon Night - guilty pleasure number one. Infact I probably should have put this series in the top position simply because I like every single game they seem to make. I can't get enough of it.

5. Rune Factory - guilty pleasure number two. It's distilled just about every game mechanic I like most in RPGs. Cooking, cute women, and fighting monsters.

of course caesar 2 and 3 is good, would say that zeus is really nice too-really good music for it,pharaoh is a good game but it must have the most annoying music ever in a game.
nile is decent enough, never got that far with it,the same with caesar 4,played it a little bit and quit rather fast.Saw caesar 1 and 2 on an abandonware-site,dunno how it is with permissions,if it is legit and all that, still have my cd′s so I′m clear, but it was listed anyway,so I assume it is legit but you newer know.

(missed AKA_thunder2 original post,my mistake)

Civilization - each iteration distinct in style, yet with the same timeless gameplay, I've lost more time to this series than any other

Half-Life - an astonishing debut title, followed by an incredible sequel, in my opinion the finest FPS series of all time (though only 2 games strong so far...)

Total War - second only to the Civ series for svcking up my time, every campaign has provided unique challenges and amazing replayability

Elder Scrolls - just when I think I'm done, there always seems to be something new to draw me back, and by now I must have spent years exploring Tamriel

Fallout - an ingenious setting, amazing roleplaying depth, and one of the few series where each game is worth revisiting

Honorable mentions: Thief, Jedi Knight, System Shock, Deus Ex, Sim City, Metroid, Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Hitman

I'm going to place the limitation on myself that the series needs three or more games to qualify for the list. I think it'll help me judge series's and not just individual games.

1. Panzer Dragoon
2. Phantasy Star
3. Pokemon
4. Virtua Fighter
5. Shining (Shining Force 1-3, Shining in the Darkness, Shining the Holy Ark, Shining Wisdom. Not so much the new ones on PS2.)
