less forgiving NPCs

i didnt really like in oblivion and fallout NV, that you could shoot somebody in the head with a shotgun or hit them in the face with a 50 lb battle axe, then you apoligize and they're happy again and they keep on eating there apple or continue with there day, it should go like this

me- (pulls out shotgun)
npc-ummm what are you doin?
me-smiles politely and shoots them in the head
npc-WTF!!!!!
me-sorry...
npc NO, [censored] YOU!! (pulls out pistol and the rest of the town is chasing your ass)

so what do you think about npc forgivingness?

It all depended on how well they liked you, though.

I think it's already been said it will depend on their disposition towards you, and your previous relationship with you (e.g. if you've helped them out before). However IIRC they were talking about theft, not whacking someone in the face. I think I've got that right anyway.

So if we would be good friends. And i would stab you with a knife and say sorry you would be like ''Aah its fine, I mean you almost killed me but you said sorry. Who cares?''

I couldn't agree more.

The difficulty-bar needs to somehow dissapear, to be exchanged. I don't like the idea of "last resort". Like for instance when I'm low health and near death I always tend to slide the difficulty-bar to the mildest/easiest. So I think variety in NPCs would be a great replacement for the diffivulty-slider.

C'mon now, who hasn't accidentally knifed their friend eh? If you went around not forgiving people who accidentally knifed you, you might end up lonely indeed. :teehee:

i agree sometimes accidents do happen but if your finger slips on the button , and you accidently stab a guard then you would have to load an autosave if you dont want to fight

(for NV) you can kill some one and others might not get super aggro, depending on who you kill and who's faction they belong to. but its an anarchtic wasteland, would you try and start something with some one you saw shoot another in the face?

In oblvion npc's tend to seem to forgive you because I guess they don't know better, but the legion did not forgive you... until you served your time. I am betting skryim will have a system where if you hurt or kill some one who belongs to a faction, that faction won't like you.

but yeah, its not realistic, for a good reason. if you killed one person and every one hated and did not forgive you, how would you be able to continue playing the game?

So what. I'm glad ur not a developer. You wouln't even allow Dialogue's, Like at the end of fallout new vegas you could choose to fight or not. You would be like what if his finger accidently slips on the ''Lets be friend'' Dialogue, Or what if it slips on the ''Lets fight'' Dialogue. Naah... I just make it one or another.

I remember Divayth Fyr in Morrowind would get really pissed and refuse to help you if you assaulted his daughters. You could only regain your trust with him through magical intervention and lots of bribery. I definitely would like NPCs to be slightly more mindful around the player, but nothing too extreme - perhaps a slight disposition modifier, through fame or something.

To a point, yes, they would take a severe disposition drop, and probably take a while to calm down though, for example, if you were best buds, and oe of you has a mental breakdown and stabs you, they may be willing to not try and kill you, but might avoid being in the same room as you or even being around you at all

EDIT: I'm not just describing OB, Im saying how I think it should be done

As long as it's not like Red Dead Redemption, you draw your gun and aim it at someone and EVERYONE starts shooting you.

Actually, it'd be more of a case of:

me- (pulls out shotgun)
npc-ummm what are you doin?
me-smiles politely and shoots them in the head
npc-*head explodes, covering your fancy new power armour in blood*

A shotgun to the head hurts y'know.

If you attack them with a weapon, all bets are off. That said, a punch followed by "sorry" should be cool, and they better not get mad if you accidentally hit them while slaying the orcs that have invaded their hometown. <_<

Wait you can yield in NV? I have a very angry Motor Runner in one save that I'd rather not have to kill.

On the subject at hand, there would have to be scales and conditions like if the offense happened as a friendly fire while in battle or measured by the current disposition of the offended or the difference in damage of hitting with a fist versus a legendary great axe.
