Capture the Flag?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:16 am

Is a simple capture the flag mode too much to ask for? I mean, the game is loosely based on Team Fortress, and thats what made TF what it is today. Why not include that in Brink? Hopefully they do, because the one sided objectives get boring sometimes, because everything is a bottle neck.

I'm an old school TF player, I played the original for the Quake engine, and good old 2fort4 in Brink would be amazing.

I'm conflicted as to how to reply to this thread. On one hand as another Quake TF vet I have a special place in my heart for CTF and think it would work really well with Brinks playstyle. On the other hand, I'm increasingly frustrated by all the threads complaining that Brink isn't more like Game X or Game Y. I enjoy Brink for what it is, and while the thought of TDM (another topic of many "WTF WHY DOESNT BRINK DO THIS?!" threads) makes me die a little inside, I think a traditional CTF mode would be an outstanding addition.

I would hate team deathmatch in this game. This game is about objectives and teamplay. Not who can get the most kills. It should stay that way. Scores are based on XP gained, not by kills.

I think they've done a good job to make it similar to TF, yet simpler, and also more advanced. Simpler in the fact that there are less classes, and more advanced by adding the Abilities system they have in place.

And to be clear, no game will ever be as good as the original Team Fortress. If there was still a community for it, I'd still be playing.

CTF with operatives opening shortcuts, Soldiers blowing up access lanes, and engineers closing up shortcuts and doors?

I think that would be fantastic.

With all the raw mobility in Brink, CTF would be something to behold.

Any objective gametype would work great in this game, but CTF would be action pack and blast with the SMART movement.

Couldn't agree more - the addition of CTF and maybe a take-and-hold mode would be awesome.

I think CTF would be a very good addition to Brink with it's playstyle. Could make for some nice strategic flag wars.

Doesn't brink mix all different gametypes together? One mission may require you to run back a object to a certain place where another objective may require to hold a certain area. Even more there are escort missions where you have to protect a person similar to capture the leader. I think Splash Damage did a good job mashing all the different aspect of everyones favorite gametypes to make one challanging objective based game. There just seems to be a few things that were not put in or finished. A lobby system or match making would be nice and more convenient to get a group of people together. The campain was short and could and should be increased to add new maps and longer end user play. The game is new and has a few bugs(what game didn't or doesn't have bugs?).Overall I enjoyed the game. The only real complaint is that its kind of short and the online lag is bad. Give them time to rummage through all the feedback they are getting so they are able to improve things.
