Downgraded 1st person?

I love playing games that don't have a HUD. I'm actually pretty happy that Skyrim isn't going to have one.

And to be honest I'm not even sure if there's going to be a 3rd person HUD either. The way it was worded made it kind of sound like 3rd person was going to have a HUD, but I'm not too sure about that.

bethesda pretty much always gives you the option to switch smoothly between the two. they realize that the player is happier when they get too choose. I saw some post once that OB svcked because it was in third person and had no guns. weird thing to say if you ask me.

In oblivion and FO3 i could only ever stand using 3rd person for when i was running around. For combat , talking to people etc i would use 1st person. The weird sliding walking thing Oblivion had going on in 3rd person was off-putting.

You must have never tried "ice skating" as I call it in FO:NV. Hold down either A or D and tap W. You will glide across the wasteland potentially like what you refer to in Oblivion.

Wow. I can't imagine playing Morrowind or Oblivion completely in first-person. I think it would be horrible.

I'm just a fan of immersion. Sam Fisher can't see around a wall IRL without sticking his head out.

Try a game without a HUD that's first person, it gets you svcked into it sooo much more then something with random symbols all over the screen...you feel less like the terminator and more like an adventurer set into a reality of magic and dragons.

I have tried games like that, and I honestly don't like it. "What's my Health at? oh ok I'm at 60%" Not very immersive.

I actually think Oblivion's UI was pretty unintrusive. I mean, you could be playing http://aionicthoughts.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/worstui.jpg :P

I ran around in 3rd person and always put it in first for combat.

A combat-only HUD will be invaluable to our level of immersion.

in a game without a HUD, the only thing you need to know about your health is whether you're dead or not dead. it's generally pretty easy to tell the difference.

Fallout 3 had a heartbeat sound when you were close to death but not quite dead, and i'd be surprised if Skyrim didn't have one too, so that's even less reason to worry about it.

Morrowind's 3rd person was TERRIBLE. I never used it. ever
Oblivion's 3rd person was bearable and I used it when I ran around.
I mainly use 1st person for all tes games

I mainly play in first person mode, but I think some things work better in third person mode, like finishing moves, or some special interactions with items in the game world, or conversing with NPCs, and the like.

There should be a smart switching of mode in such events.

To prepare for Skyrim I actually tried this in Fallout 3 last night. I turned the HUD opacity completely off. All I have to say is wow. It's way more fun. Especially when you're in some metro tunnels and you hear ghouls... There is no compass to show you where they are! It's quite scary. Having no crosshair also wasn't that big of a deal, only took me a few minutes to get used to it and I was back to constant head shots.

It made me curious though. If we have no hud, are we still going to see what a object is when we highlight it? For example you look at a door and it says "Door to Outlander's house"
