Oblivion-Where can I buy it?

Post » Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:11 pm

I'm starting to think I'm living in one of Stephen Hawking's alternate universes, as I can't seem to find Oblivion for sale, especially not for PC-download. When I try the Bethesda website, it sends me to a generic Amazon page, where the prices are outrageous; $90.00(w/S&H) for the GOTY on average! No way am I paying that much. Is there some reason behind this I haven't heard about?

D2D doesn't sell it either; only the game guide, which is pretty useless without the game itself.

^ That. GOTY Deluxe from Steam is 100% complete with all of the official addons, and you can mod it to your heart's content. Still well worth $25 IMO.

If you ask me, this is almost ripping Bethsda off, it's a fantastic game, with all the DLC and expansions. Here, Vanilla Oblivion is still about $50, in NZD, that pack is $31.40

Thanks for the link, Ni! <--how do you pronounce your screenname?(j/k; I have the movie. hehe)

I did see that Steam sells the GOTY, which is good. It still doesn't answer why Bethesda or D2D no longer sell it, however. Why only one place to DL the game? It just seems kinda strange, considering you can get Morrowind at a few places, but not Oblivion.

This feels strangely similar to the price jump for Planescape: Torment. For a while there, it was selling for over $60.00 for a +10yo game! Oblivion came out 5 years ago, so the $90.00 for the Disc seems pretty jacked up to me. Mebbe it's because I already bought the GOTY edition before, but having a lame computer, I wasn't even able to finish, and now that I can run it full-bore, I'm really looking forward to seeing just how beautiful it is, before Skyrim makes me not want to bother.

You can Buy Oblivion GOTY on the gamesas site, but I think that's a disc game and gets shipped to your door. I have no idea why it is so hard to come by, the only think that I can think of that would be slightly plausible, is that a lot of Oblivion players or people that want the game have got it, or beaten it already. They may not have played Morrowind and want to see the earlier entries of TES, so game sites sell it more - but I highly doubt that.
Either way, go with the Steam GOTY deluxe, it's the best value for money you will find

You don't beat Oblivion, you play it, as long as you want.

I'm thinking that mebbe the reason is that Bethesda/D2D don't want the hassle of Win7 error repair? They do go out of their way to remind me that Oblivion is not supported in Win7, so they let you decide to buy the disc knowing this, or wait for Skyrim.

I'm not gonna worry for now, since I got in on the sweet, sweet Borderlands GOTY for $7.50USD at D2D, and wow, I'm impressed so far. I'll still get Oblivion. I.Will.Not.Fail. ihope. :hubbahubba:

Annoying that you live in the USA. Here in Australia, Oblivion GOTY is still available on PC from http://www.gametraders.com.au/#search?cat=Web_Search&words=oblivion&fmat=PC&genre=all&age=all&location=all&page=1

Yep, we got's all them and Walmart too. I just prefer DLing games now, as it allows me to DL as often as I want, and no worries about scratched/lost discs. I've lost more game discs than I can count. Another plus for DLs is that many older games are prepped by the sellers beforehand to work on newer OS. I'm just not very computer literate, and I appreciate the ease of DLing games that are already updated.

I'm not that concerned about Oblivion, as I know I can purchase it; I guess I just wanted confirmation that Bethesda is unwilling to update the game for Win7, which seems to be the reason that they have discontinued DL sales, as has D2D. I've never used Steam, and I've heard so many tales of woe using their system that I'm a little apprehensive about going that route. I may have to, ultimately.

Thanks! I've played for about 4 hours so far, and my worst fears were dashed. Since I've been playing Fallout3 for quite a while, I was kinda worried that Oblivion's graphics wouldn't hold up to my now stratospheric expectations. Ha! It's even more beautiful than I imagined it. And, since it's a bit longer in the tooth, the gameplay is just flawless. No hiccups or glitches so far, and even the "loading" screens have been smooth as glass. After the horrendously low-graphics I had to endure with my last play-through of Oblivion, I'm like a kid in a candy store. Hehehehe.
