I miss Oblivion gates in my game

Post » Thu Aug 26, 2010 12:06 pm

Let me tell you folks, first time I saw an Oblivion gate (and had to deal with it) I couldn't wait to get it over with so I could get back to that nice Tamrielic countryside. I figured once Kvatch was over with, I could get back to enjoying the beautiful game. Wrong!

Instead, I'd wind up getting near a gate as I walked or rode somewhere. the sky would go red. There goes the pretty sunlight! There goes the peaceful birds singing! I'd be like "ahhh not again, not another gate"!

But after awhile (and a newer character, Beujock the Grey Wizard) I started to look forward to finding a new gate to close. :D I loved the challenge of trying to figure out how to get into the main tower, fighting enemies, and finally grabbing the sigil stone. I also got addicted to the changeover: the way the sky would change color, the atmosphere would get all darketc.

So without posting spoilers, my Main Quest finally ended the other day. No more Oblivion gates. And the thing is, I'm finding out I actually MISS them! :( I didnt' expect this. Now I walk in the countryside, and I keep waiting for the thunder in the distance, the red clouds, but I remember...oh duh.... no more Oblivion gates!

I'm actually thinking of starting yet another character to do the MQ all over again!

Oblivion gates are a lot of fun if you enjoy that kind of thing, for me they kind of got repetitive. In terms of find stuff to do out in the wilderness I always enjoyed the daedric shrines more, but that's just my opinion.

If it weren't for the sigil stones (and the fact that there's several Oblivion wastes) they would have become repetitive for me too. But as I was roleplaying, I got in the habit of only closing gates that are near roads and towns. If I saw one deep in the countryside, I'd just let it go.

One thing I was concerned about is the A-bomb. My previous game with a MQ got affected at 360 hours, and I was literally in the main tower (behind the siege engine) when my game ended because I couldn't get past a door. So that's another reason I didn't just go on closing gates forever.

If you′re on PC it′s easy to fix.

I for one don′t miss the gates. I′ve only closed the Kvatch one and I don′t want another :obliviongate:

I'm with you on this. Sof ar I've only closed the Kvatch gate. However, I can imagine I'll close more when Helena gets to level 17, purely for the sigil stones and the enchantments therein.

A chore? Wow, am I the only one here who digs the gates? *looks around* I guess I am.

The Oblivion wastes are so...like something out of science fiction. I'm forgetting who I'm trying to think of. Asimov? My memory svcks sometimes!

I actually thought the gates were pretty cool as well. They look so much like a blemish on the countryside, a thing that should not be, a tear in the fabric of reality through which spills all manner of hellish evil. They warp and twist the land around them, causing all life to flee and the weather to change. So even though they contrast with the rest of Cyrodiil, it makes it all the more disturbing that they're there, they seem like a real threat. :obliviongate:

Thirded. I only closed the Kvatch' one, and only because I needed to do it in order to ascend to Captain of the Legion.

Oblivion wastes remind me of the one Teen Titans episode "The End".
