Vast metro-like underground areas

Post » Fri Aug 27, 2010 10:02 am

Just curious if anyone else would like to see massive underground environments like FO3's metros. It just seemed like sometimes i spent days underground with all the interconnecting tunnels. I just think it would be pretty cool to see some mines or caverns similar to the Mehrunes Razor quest in Olivion. An I think that the mountains of Skyrim might accomodate this quite well. In Oblivion most of the dungeons felt like I wanted to get out as soon as i had killed everyone/collected all loot. I think underground should be used for more than just evil hideouts, like Meresti in FO3. I'm only curious, not saying that this is definitely a great idea, didn't see any other posts adressing this topic.

Maybe if they're Dwemer ruins and tunnels with their copper steam pipes and robots and such.

I am sure that the Dwemer ruins will feed your metro addiction. Dwemer ruins in Morrowind are actually quite alike. Filled with robots and traps...

From an ancient civilization...

Slightly ninja'd there :ninja:

Sadly i havent played Morrowind. Didnt have an XBOX and i dont do PC games. So all i know of Dwemer ruins is what i have read. I don't know if Dwemer ruins in Skyrim is in the lore or not, but that would be cool.

Yea, I'm thinking large Dwemer ruins, Giant underground cities, with a futuristic yet ancient fantasy-like atmosphere.

Radac's Forge

In one room here, you will see a giant Dwemer robot under construction.

NOOOO!!!!! this is what made Fallout 3 svcked and boring. Please don't mention Fallout ever again in the TES forums, the game is horribal in so many aspects. Skyrim should have big open and unique dewmer ruins and caves. Fallout 3's metros were long and looked all the same and you would get lost in most of them.

Considering Dwemer centurion spheres are in then Dwemer ruins should be too. In Morrowind mention the "Dwemer" topic, people would say that Dwemer ruins are all over Tamriel, just more common in Morrowind since that was their home land.

You. Be nice or please be quiet. Anyone is allowed to use anything (appropriate) they want as an example on these boards, regardless of if other people agree with it, or think the example used is, and I quote, "horribal". I am a fan of some kind of an underground city or at least more interesting caves then Oblivion. It makes a lot of sense in Skyrim as the ground gives natural insulation to cold so they would be more apt to build down than up.

With the landscape being what it is, it is not unthinkable that some old mines and the like could have been expanded to form underground tunnels/roads that connect valleys or other regions of interest, and perhaps connect with larger undergournd complexes. I like the idea.

It would be cool to enter a cave on a cliffside and trek into what seems like unending darkness only to emerge on the complete opposite side of a mountain or something!

also: I am a fan of ancient undergound cities. I know that Dwemer ruins in MW and Aleid ruins in OB were supposed to be the remains of ancient cities, but most felt more like tombs.

Be nice to use hiddeen passage ways and other caves entrance to get away from pursuers.

Sounds like the thieves guild could be into that kind of stuff. :)

I want this also. Actual hidden passages, not the "Press the obvious switch to open door that is normally locked" bullcrap. I want some secrets to be so hard to find that you either have to be told by an NPC about it, be messing around in the Creation Kit, or actually discover it on accident. So no big writing in the corner that says "Activate Hidden Switch". Just the little activation Icon in the center or a sound or something easy to miss.

I agree, for the most part. But be honest- given most things being this well-hidden, the "rare and occasional" http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:BM-interior-Fjell.jpg does have its own fun factor. :D

I hope there are sewers, 'cause that's a great hiding place for thieves and necromancers...

True, I wasn't saying for all caves, and even ones with good hidden passages could have some kind of marker easily missed like your example. I remember my friend trying to find a riddle on Batman Arkham Asylum. I saw it right away because I gathered what the riddle meant. But I wouldn't tell him where to go because it was fun seeing him sift through the clues as he wandered through the enviroment, piecing it together.

Btw, it was a Riddler question mark that has the main part of the question mark on an doorway and the dot on the ceiling of the room that it led into. You had to line it up just right to get it to work. It took my friend just under an hour to find it lol.
