think there will be ghosts in NV?

Post » Sun Aug 29, 2010 4:47 am

Well, Bethesda owns Fallout now. Fans can change with the times. Not talking about ghosts and aliens specifically, but in general.

In general fans could be more open minded but Beth should respect the fans. Old and New. There are alot of old school fans around and that's because Fallout is an awesome idea for a franchise. There are three awesome fallout games before Beth came along. Fallout 3 is great but any Devs of any game franchise should respect what has come before and use it. Anything new added should have along thought process before it's added "how does this effect canon/lore" not "wow this is cool and we can do anything so lets add it!"

Let's keep this discussion on ghosts in Fallout now. Don't know how it got to be vampires, etc.

What - what have I done? :sadvaultboy: Did no one see the winky smiley at the end of my post? There was a winky smiley!

I do agree with you. Ghosts do fit the Fallout Universe. The Ghost in the Den was apart of the main game. There is a quest involved. Other NPC know about it. There was to be another ghost in Sulik's Village that was cut from the game. Fallout two's intro has "Humanity was almost extinguished. Their spirits becoming part of the back ground radiation that blanketed the earth." It could very well be word play but to me it adds a nice creepy element to the game.

The best compromise to make people happy would just to learn of them from tribals and Easter Eggs but not to see them. Not everyone is as open minded about Ghosts in Fallout as I am. To me they are more apart of Fallout then Aliens.

The whole "spirits becoming part of the background radiation" is definitely word play, in the same way as when I say "I gave purified water to the beggar because the spirit of charity came over me." We all know that doesn't mean a ghost from Charity popped into existence over my head! It's flowery pose that sounds awesome, just like "boiling seas" from the same speech. The seas didn't literally boil.

And just because something was in a Fallout game doesn't mean it fits in the Fallout universe. Godzilla was in a Fallout game, as were crew members from the Enterprise.

Though I do find common ground with you concerning aliens apparently. We may not agree on ghosts, but we can come together in peace to hate aliens.

I guess it depends on you're morals. I think it was you that said that the family are cracked in the head and they don't call themselves cannibals but just going by the definition of cannabal from what I can find. It's the eating the flesh of you're own kind. Does not say about drinking blood. Can drink someones blood without causing harm. Can't really eat another person without harming/killing them. So which is worce?

Cannibalism freaks me out...
Yet I love zombie films... Go figure. :P

I dunno, even if it's less bad to drink blood instead of eating flesh I still consider it to be wrong.
I'm so against cannibalism that if I were on that plane in the film Alive I'd just high-tail it out of there when that guy started cutting up one of the dead corpses.
[censored] no that they're eating me y'know, and I'd rather die than eat flesh from another human being even if it's for my own survival.
As I said, cannibalism freaks, me, out.

But we all have different views on it I guess.
----------------------------
Now, ghosts.

Since it's Vegas I could see a scam operation going on there.
Say the outskirts of Vegas, there's this house, and a few people inside of Vegas are promoting it to be a haunted house.
They bring people there and lock them in and then bring out the special effects and stuff, scares the people senseless.
The scam people tell them they will let them out if they leave their money and valuables behind inside the house.
The player could go to this hosue with a crowbar and remove some floor planks to the sealed off basemant and disturb a crude grave.
Afterwards the player can tell the scam people that something's wrong in there.
They go in, you lock the door and they get so scared of the real ghost that they all actually die from it.

It features fake ghosts and real ghosts, or was it just them being scared by their own special effects?
No one will ever know. :)

It's still an awesome intro :D Seeing as how fallout has alot to do with Karma it can be interpreted to mean souls. That's what's so great about the english language, words can mean many things.

And just because something was in a Fallout game doesn't mean it fits in the Fallout universe. Godzilla was in a Fallout game, as were crew members from the Enterprise.

Godzilla was an easter egg. With the Ghost there are two quests associated with it.
Spoiler
finding the locket and buring her remains in the grave yard.
Other NPC know about her and talk about her. To me this means it's not an easter egg. Do I want to see more ghost? Depends but for now I would be happy with just hearing tribals talk about them.

Though I do find common ground with you concerning aliens apparently. We may not agree on ghosts, but we can come together in peace to hate aliens.

Not with the Hematophage Perk, blood is safe.

For an added bonus, check its icon.

I was referring to reality. There actually is a disease whose symptoms are eased through consumption of blood. Forget what it's called though.

This is the New Vegas forum... no need to dredge up the tired FO1/FO2 fans vs the FO3 fans type of comments, a few of which have bled in here. Stick to the topic, or thereabouts and the thread will stay open.

It would be cool to have some ghosts and other supernatural stuff back. Just as long as they don't overdo it with a ghost version of Mothership Zeta. Not to bash Bethesda. It was extremely fun, but it took the whole alien thing to an extreme. The crashed UFO and Firelance random encounter were just right. Hopefully we won't get a ghost tragedy that will have people complaining on this forum in the future about any mention of ghosts in Fallout 4. You know who you are.

it would be interesting if there was a kind of haunted place in the middle of the desert, and you show like weird shadows and stuff, but no real ghost.

I wouldn't mind experiencing a bit of paranormal activity here and there as long as it's rare. The side quest in Fallout 2 with the visible ghost was a bit over the top (though the spirit's visibility can be chalked up to the Chosen One being a tribal I guess), but the more believable paranormal activity found in Fallout 3/Point Lookout was enjoyable. Unfortunately the paranormal activity of Fallout 3 was very, very easy to miss.

dont wanna go off topic, but what kinda paranormal activity was in point lookout?

Ghosts in Fallout is [censored].

I don't mind the implying of ghosts kinda like with the Dunwich building because maybe you can say that was hallucinations due to radiation exposure.

Paranormal/magical things do not feel right in Fallout. Let's stick with scifi.

I don'tmind a small refernce or talk of ghosts but a strange shadow or 2 or strangly moved or moving items and doors would be as much as I'd want.

Love how they positioned the DOOR in Fo3, spooked me a bit, I first though it was a feral but looked around and saw nothing, then realized ferals can't open open doors.....

Another Dunwich type of building would be the next best thing to ghosts >_> although I would have to imagine they made the Dunwich building as a kind of reminiscence to the TES games .-.

In the Herzog Mine (the area with the Mirelurks if I remember correctly) you can sometimes see water rippling as if someone was walking through it despite no one actually being there.
