Too Shiny!

I've just noticed that various models that I've created seem to be excessively shiny. http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss132/JW1a/ScreenShot395.jpg a picture of a piece of carpeting I created that gives you an idea of what I'm talking about. I've set the 'glossiness' in the NIF right down to 1, but it appears to make no difference. The effect is particularly annoying when the pip-boy light is used, when all these objects flare up and white-out. Anyone know what is causing this? I just don't seem to be able to create a dull-looking object. Is it something to do with the normal map?

Your normal map's Alpha channel is to white you need to black it out ! -> In GIMP you do this easily by just taking an eraser and turning the opacity to around 80-90 and erasing the entire image once that will lower the specularity of the items -> make sure the image has an alpha layer and that you save it as either DXT 3 or 5 do not save it as DXT1 as that will save the alpha layer as a 1 bit layer.
