GECK messed up

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:07 am

Hello everyone
My geck is messed up, i've got tons of problems... well, less than before, but i've still got some problems. So here are the problems and a picture

http://img824.imageshack.us/i/bugsawd.jpg/

1 - Black squares
2 - Weird lighting
3 - Can't paint some world sheets, but around it, i can ( Like a square, and i can't paint it )

About the world sheets:
When i'm "painting" the ground, and i paint another cell or another part of the world, i can't paint the same cell... It's like a huge square, and i can't paint it, but everything around it ( Like selecting a square in photoshop, gimp or watever and you can only paint around it )

Landscape-making. scary. I suspect that not many of us have a great amount of experience with it, but maybe someone will have some input.

In regards to the part about not being able to paint in certain squares(cells)... it is possible that the cell you are trying to paint on has too many textures painted on it already. If I remember correctly, each cell can only have 6 or 7 textures applied before it won't accept anymore. That being said... from the image it looks like you don't have very many textures painted on the landscape yet.

When trying to paint the landscape, its helpful to turn on cell view(B is hotkey). This lets you see the actual dimensions of each cell in your worldspace. When painting with the landscape editor, you can also press the hotkey I to bring up a window that shows all of the textures applied in the cells around your mouse cursor location. Using this window, you can delete any extra or unwanted textures. You might try to use this feature and delete some of the textures from the areas where you are having trouble painting.

Okay, i will try to do that, but i've got another problem...
I was painting a cell, and when i tried to paint the cell next to it, it changed to a black colour, but the other one was normal... It's like one cell is grass and the other is black.

Well, there are only like 2 textures, and it didn't worked.

The GECK does not necessarily show you what you will see in game. Load it up in the game and see what it looks like.

If you happen to delete the 'first' texture in the landscape list, it can cause 'black void' issues. Do do not ever delete the first texture. You can 'replace' it, but don't delete it.

When you are landscaping, sometimes you need to exit landscape mode, recenter your cursor on the current cell you are in by clicking, then reopen the landscape editor. A little trial and error will find most of your issues might go away.

Ah i remember you!
You helped me making my vault door!
Well, I clicked the cell ( LMB ) and nothing happened, i mean... I still can't paint the cell
Actually, i don't think its a cell, it's like a square inside the cell :\
Really need help

If you can't paint anymore in the cell, then you have too many textures in that 'quad' of the cell.

There are 4 quads (thus the name quad) in a 'cell'.

When in landscape mode, make sure the render window is Active. Press the 'I' key to bring up the textures used in the cell. There will be 4 lists, one list for each quad of the cell.

It also shows how much each texture is used. remove the lesser used ones if you want to add another texture. Do not remove the first texture in any list.

You may have to save your mod, quit, then load it back up in order to edit the landscape textures. And sometimes it just refuses to let you place a texture in a cell.

Well, there are only like 2 textures, and it didn't worked.

I had the problem of neighbouring textures turning white or black quite regularly when using the landscape editor, and it was purely a GECK quirk. Save, exit and then re-load the GECK and see if the problem persists.
